Critics take on Live 8 Lineup and The Daily Music and Tech News

Part of: Daily Music and Tech News

Damon Albarn criticizes Live 8 lineup as being, “just too damn Anglo-Saxon”. Critics have commented that there is a dearth of Black and African artists on the bill. In London only Snoop Dogg and Ms. Dynamite will be performing. The only African performer on the bill is Youssou N’Dour.

I think Damon Albarn is off his rocker on this one just a bit.

Let's just let the people of Africa starve because there are more wealthy, elitest white people performing at a concert for their benefit than black people- or perhaps that is a bit f***ing insane.

I understand the idea that we should do the right thing and do it the right way. It would be great if there were more Black and African artists performing. The goal, however, is to help people who are suffering. The magnitude of the suffering should trump silly complaints over symbolism.
