Creed Reunite for 2009 Tour, New Album In Works

Part of: NewsFlash

The four original members of Creed have announced plans to reunite for a late summer/fall tour and a brand new album, their first new music in eight years.  Lead singer Scott Stapp, guitarist Mark Tremonti, drummer Scott Phillips, and bassist Brian Marshall will play  arenas and amphitheaters across the US beginning in Pittsburgh August 6 and wrapping up in Nashville in October.

Creed were one of the top selling rock bands of the late '90s, selling millions of records and selling out concert venues worldwide.  Creed parted ways with the band to pursue a solo career.  The remaining members formed the band Alter Bridge with singer Myles Kennedy.  According to Billboard, the Creed reunion does not mean an end to Stapp's solo career or Alter Bridge.

Creed was phenomenally successful with fans but didn't always fare as well with critics.  In addition to being panned by many critics as derivative, Stapp found himself embroiled in rows with Kid Rock over a homemade sex tape and also got into a war of words with Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst.

Few details about the new album are known.  The band is reported to be rehearsing for the tour as well as working on songs for a new record.

If Nirvana's Nevermind heralded alternative's ascendancy into the mainstream, Creed's mega-successful 1997 debut showed just how quickly--and craftily--alt.rock's musical hallmarks could be utterly co-opted by it. ...

I wrote this as a straight news piece, but the entire while I was silently screaming, "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" Worse still, Creed reuniting didn't at least kill Alter Bridge and Stapp's solo work.

from the mouth of Henry Rollins:

All you have to do is listen to the songs on the radio and you know that Amerika is weak. If I was seeking to invade Amerika, the music would be my cue. "They're listening to Creed. We're going in. We'll take the Capitol in a day."

Maybe that's why the aliens don't bother with us. They heard "With Arms Wide Open" and said, "Fuck it. We don't even want the silly Earth."

How the hell asked for this to happen!? I'm sure that this is one of the signs of the apocalypse!
