Jewel — multi-platinum country singer and judge on Nashville Star -- has eloped with singer and rodeo star Ty Murray, reports People Magazine. Ty dated Jewel for ten years before popping the question. He secretly proposed to her on May 23, Jewel’s birthday.
Just last year, Jewel told the press, “We don’t know if there’s a point - we’ve lapped our friends who’ve gotten married and divorced,” she explained. “We probably would if we had kids - we’re just not sure we want them yet. But we’ve had something really special already.”
The magical night took place at The Cove Atlantis resort in the Bahamas on August 7 on the beach. The music playing in their cabana was not by Jewel herself, but by Otis Redding. The song was “I’ve Been Loving You Too Long.” She was wearing a Monique Lhuillier dress and he was wearing cowboy boots , a cowboy hat, and jeans. Jewel recited during her vows, "I said that I'll try to make our lives the best piece of art I've ever done.”
The private ceremony was extremely exclusive. There were only two guests and absolutely no family. One guest who attended was Jason Freese, Jewel’s former keyboard player, who also officiated the ceremony, after being ordained on the Internet. His wife Amy was also in attendance. Family was told after the ceremony. Ty wanted to elope because, “We feel that's what marriage is – just me and her.” After the ceremony, they enjoyed surprise fireworks put on at the hotel. "It felt," added Ty, "like we were the only ones in the world."
Jewel — who recently toured with Brad Paisley on his Paisley Party Tour — also has stated she and Murray are "ready to start a family." Ty then added, "We're going to start working on that tonight!" A bit too much information.
