Country in London

CMU reports:

The Barbican has confirmed it will be staging its now annual country music
festival for the third time later this month. This year called 'Way Beyond
Nashville', there will be 30 concerts staged between 20 Oct and 20 Nov in
ten London locations, including the Barbican, Shepherd's Bush Empire,
Hammersmith Apollo and Borderline. Acts already booked to play include
Emmylou Harris, Ralph Stanley, the Mavericks, Caitlin Cary, the Handsome
Family and John Hiatt & Robert Cray.

One of the key events will see Evan Dando, Ed Harcourt, Grand Drive, The
Coal Porters, Adam Masterson and Jim Lauderdale all participate in a gig
paying tribute to country-rock legend Gram Parsons. Parsons found fame in
the sixties and early seventies through The International Submarine Band,
The Byrds, and The Flying Burrito Brothers as well as his solo work – but he
tragically died in 1973, aged just 26, when he overdosed on morphine and
tequila. The event, at London's Union Chapel, will mark the 30th anniversary
of the singer's death.

An accompanying compilation album for the festival will be released 27 Oct
by Casual. More information
