Concert Review: The Dillinger Escape Plan & The Bled - Ridglea Theater - Ft. Worth, TX - April 18, 2008

Many metal enthusiasts worldwide know the name The Dillinger Escape Plan. You may not be a fan of the chaotic, off-time form of mathematical metal but if you have seen this band live, you will know that not too many bands can match their ferocity or stage presence. Bringing along Tucson, AZ metalcore maestros The Bled, this tour strolled into Ft. Worth, Texas with one intention: Destroy everything you ever knew about a live show.

While The Bled have proven before that they are capable to holding their own on any tour package — touring with everyone from My Chemical Romance to Linkin Park — what would the verdict be for tonight's show? Currently supporting their latest record, Silent Treatment (Vagrant), their 40 minute set would be similar to getting onto a roller-coaster at your local Six Flags theme park. You may have tons of fun one second then suddenly find yourself wondering "Why did I get on this thing?"

The Bled gave the crowd what they wanted. A familiar mix of metal and hardcore with plenty of breakdowns to appease even the most cynical critic of the genre, they managed to bring enough energy for a decent set. I can say drummer Mike Pedicone is a monster behind the kit and guitarist Jeremy Ray Talley was playing as if he was possessed but as their show progressed though, you can tell something was definitely a bit off. The band seemed very exhausted and not as fluid as I thought they would be.

Vocalist James Munoz would then later confirm my suspicions as they announced that this would be the last tour for awhile and "we are going to take a much needed break and resume in the fall." Either way, The Bled was respectable but not up to par like they could have been. This was especially apparent when DEP came on.
