Concert Review: Chris Isaak, Rochester Hills, Michigan - August 17, 2008 - Page 3

The crowd went wild as goodnights were expressed, which was enough for the band to come out for their “impromptu” encore. Silvertone broke into a shortened rendition of “Super Magic 2000” so that their leader could change into the glimmering silver suit. Once he made his blinding entrance, they went straight into “American Boy” and “Notice The Ring,” both songs rocked to their full extent.

When I came to this concert, there was only one song I had hoped to hear. My personal playlist was met for the most part at the 2006 concert, except for one. I felt like Nelson Muntz in the Branson Simpsons episode getting the thrill of his life when Andy Williams finally threw in “Moon River” during the third encore. Chris Isaak broke out his trademark acoustic guitar, complete with his name in sparkling silver letters, and went into “Forever Blue.” I melted, hung on every heartbreaking word, until just before he delivered the final “blue”, which would close out the concert. Grandma let out a call to the wild that rivaled Tarzan. I was about to check with the group to see who the designated driver was. I think security did that instead.

All in all, a fantastic show. Even my brother and sister-in-law, tagalongs thanks to a four pack ticket deal, with no knowledge of Chris Isaak’s music, thought it was a great concert. They’d been to too many dull aging rocker shows at nearby DTE and this ended up being a refreshing change. I’ll be eagerly looking for the announcement of next year’s show, but now I know to keep a watchful eye for rowdy grandmas.

I saw Chris Isaak a few years ago at Meadowbrook and it remains one of my most memorable concert experiences! He is the most amazing live performer and is also so giving to his fans. After the show he headed to the merchandise hut (it was very shed-like, do they still use that?) and signed autographs for everyone standing in line. I have a very cute picture of him hamming it up for the camera. Thank you for the review that reminded me how much I love this man! Can't wait for a new album!

Kari - Yes, he did the same thing after the show this year, autographs at the merchandise hut, which bummed me out because we were close to the tent and could have gotten a great place in line, but my brother was driving and wanted to get out of there. I promised myself I'd wait in line next show. It's good to know he sticks around for everyone.

I'm thrilled to hear you got to experience one of his shows there. He is very generous to his fans. Thanks for sharing your experience!
