Chevelle- Wonder What's Next

Modern rock music is very generic. If you aren't ripping of Creed, you are ripping of a band who ripped of Creed. If you listen to your local "X" radio station, you will hear band after band of Creed rip-offs, with the occational Creed song thrown in for good measure.

It's no wonder Creed is making a lot of money these days for sub-par music.

With that said, Chevelle rips off Creed. The review could end here, but that would be doing Chevelle an injustice.

We've heard all these songs before. Or at least songs which sound just like them. The radio single doesn't stand out from anything else on the radio. Heck, any song on the cd could be the radio single and it wouldn't stick out.

As a reviewer, I feel like my job is to present two parts to a review. First are the facts about the band and the music, which (in this review) are stated above. Second, I present my own feelings about the cd being judged. That will be presented below. I present the facts so that the reader can get a less-biased (but not totally unbiased) feel for the cd and what it is. My own feelings, on the other hand, sometimes contradict what the facts say about the cd.

With "Wonder What's Next", despite the fact that I loathe Creed and wish I hadn't spent $17.98+tax on thier most recent drivel, I feel that it was $8.99 well spent. The production is sharp. The guitars crunch without feeling too souped up. The vocals soar and control in a style not unlike Creed, but much better and fitting. Somehow.

Maybe I'm kidding myself. Because, like the facts stated above, I need to hate this cd. But it feels like it brings something fresh in the sonic approach that I like.

Would I recomend it? Selfishly, yes. Honestly, though, unless you are a modern rock fan, probably not. Though, it's price tag will not drain your bank account.

peace.
