Light at the End of the Tunnel
War & Peace
(Mascot)
Picked this up at a discount Virgin store (Virgin XS) in Bridgend, Wales for a pittance. Money well spent I can assure you.
This shows Pilson venturing out on his own but not too far from the plantation. As you would expect from someone who has been a member of Dokken so long, there are quite a few Dokken-esque songs on here like "What Cost War" and "The Night You Walked Away" for example, as well as a Beatley-one and a jingle piss-take at the end of the CD.
What might surprise Dokken fans, who do not own their "One Night Only" live CD, is the fact Pilson has such a good voice, comparable to another under-rated solo-artist Ritchie Sambora (which are far better than JBJ's solo stuff and for that matter the last several albums from his proper band).
As you would expect with this sort of outting, he has a bunch of his mates show up including Reb Beach, John Norum, Ritchie Kotzen and John Norum. This is by no means an essential purchase, but unlike many solo projects, it has a great deal of merit. I would not recomend paying full price for this, but if you can find it for a few dollars off then pick it up. I hear that the latest release from War & Peace ain't half bad either. Let's face it, Jeff Pilson is a damn fine musician with oodles of talent to spare.
Rating: 4/5 (if bought at a discount), 3/5 otherwise
