CD Review: TP.3 Reloaded by R. Kelly

R. Kelly's new album TP.3 Reloaded is the second "sequel" to his classic solo debut, 12 Play (the first one being 2000's TP2.com). 12 Play was known for sexually charged songs like "Your Body's Callin'" and "Bump 'N' Grind." TP.3 Reloaded is R. Kelly's return to sexually oriented music after the tame double concept album Happy People/U Saved Me. Unfortunately, TP.3 Reloaded doesn't deserve to be even remotely associated with 12 Play. Even a certain five-part song cannot save this lackluster effort.

For all of R. Kelly's great slow jams, uplifting songs, and ballads, there are those incredibly silly songs that only he can pull off. These include songs like "You Remind Me Of Something," where he compares his girl to his car, his stereo, and his bank account, "Feelin' On Your Booty," which is pretty self-explanatory, and "Thoia Thoing," a song that doesn't really make any sense. A lot of the songs on TP.3 Reloaded are in the vein of the songs I mentioned, but they seem more like songs a comedian would come up with to make fun of R. Kelly, rather than songs from the man himself. "Put My T-Shirt On" has the R. singing about how beautiful his girl looks wearing his oversized T-shirt. He says being with his girl is like smoking marijuana on "Sex Weed" and makes tons of references to food on "In The Kitchen," one of the better songs on the album. Kelly also does his best Prince impression on the unintentionally hilarious "Remote Control" as he sings "Girl you've got me programmed/Under your control" in a high falsetto.

R. Kelly tries to make the R. stand for reggae not one, not two, but three times on this album. He attempts island-style singing (and doesn't do that badly considering) on "Slow Wind." On "Reggae Bump Bump," Kelly and guest star Elephant Man spend five minutes talking about how much they love the female booty. "Burn It Up," featuring Wisin and Yandell, is Kelly's attempt to capitalize on the growing popularity of reggaeton, complete with the genre's signature beat in the background.

OH MY GOD!!!!!! R.Kelly really outdid himself this time, i thought ignition was good, but Trapped In The Closet is unbelievable. I just hope that other artist doesn't try to copy him, but if they do, we will know where the original mechanism came from, the best R.Kelly

Well, somebody at Jive screwed up then. If you watch the credits for the "Trapped In The Closet" video on DVD, they say R. Kelly's playing "Sylvester" while "Gwendolyn" is the name of R. Kelly's wife. Can't wait to hear parts 6-10.

Well...I'm not one to be "bias" but...R. Kelly deserves an oscar for "Trapped". My wife told me about it (and she doesn't like "this kind of music") and she was very impressed. I give RK credit for pulling it off. The critics will have their day. RK will have his too.

I think that as a musician this man is in a league of his own and the trapped soapie proves that. Just disappointed that he's gone back to the played out sex theme and that the rest of the album lacks lustre.

Ok...this is the worst thing I have ever seen or heard in my entire life. It’s so bad, that it is actually good, because it’s just so amusing that people take anything this child molester says seriously. This isn’t even music! All of you who like this piece of crap deserve to spend eternity getting beatings from various R&B artists, because this gives R&B and music in general, a bad name. And for the oh-so-wise person who wrote, “OH MY GOD!!!!!! R. Kelly really outdid himself this time, I thought ignition was good, but Trapped In The Closet is unbelievable.” You really deserve to go to hell. I don’t know who you are but I want to kick your ass. Damn right, R. Kelly outdid himself, and not in a good way! And the only thing that’s unbelievable about it is that R. Kelly had the balls to sing about this bullshit for 15 minutes, taking that risk of getting killed for putting the world through yet another R. Kelly “masterpiece.” I especially admire lines like "Next thing you know a call comes through on my cell phone/I tried my best to quickly put it on vibrate." That really shows how deep and meaningful R. Kelly can be….truly fantastic. I really look forward to Ch. 6-10, because really, we could all use a good laugh. Peace out!

This is smut and filth, its porn for the air ways. course we don't want the little kids to hear about how a man screwed a woman so long he got a cramp. WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU!!! Mozart and Beethoven created masterpieces. For F*cks sake, he is talking about lying to his girlfriend about all the tail he has gotten while they were together. ARE YOU ALL RETARDED!!! THIS IS CRAP!!! IT MADE MY EARS BLEED!!! THIS FILTH TELLS ME HE IS THE SPAWN OF SATAN!!! AND YOU IDIOTS ARE KISSING HIS ASS!!! He sucks. And may god have mercy on your soul. I'm out...but first i have to see if this filth gave me cancer. thanks alot R. Kelly. You single-handly lowered the I.Q. of the world by 30 points.

hmm, yes no one has ever thought to have a musical in a different genre of music. r.kelly totally invented telling a story through song. At least usually the music has different melodies, and do not have just ridiculously campy lyrics.

    R. Kelly is spawn of the devil? He should go to hell for writing this song? Please, cast the first stones. People always complain that the same type of music is played over and over again. He comes out and does something totally different and ya are hatin. AND I BET, you both listened to ALL five chapters. When judgement day comes, please volunteer and stand in the front of the line. And as far as him being the video, would you really have believed the girl was 14 if you didn't hear it from someone. Grow up and get wise, it's called Psychology. If somebody said that the person you were having sex with was a man, people would believe it b/c is presented to them that way.

trapped in the closet is amazing and you shouldn't be hatin. for you to say that it was horrible you had to have listened to all of it. if you thought it was horrible from the beginning than you shouldn't have listened to any of it. and the child molesting is crap. if you weren't there to see it than you can't believe everything you hear!! i love the song and i can't wait for 6-10 i give credit when it is deserved and he definitly deserves it!!! stop hatin!!

R Kelly is a genius. Period!!!! It's really sad that people will simply hate on R Kelly only because he's successful. That's what it really boils down to...because he's never being convicted of any charges...nor prosecuted...So why not give him the benefit of being innocent before proven guilty. If any of you haters can do a better job at making good music, then go for it. If not!! Then be quite!!!

Okay okay enought with the R.Kelly hating antics. You haters can't be serious. Anybody who thinks that R. Kelly isnt one of the greatest musicians in this generation is out of your mind. Come on, I mean, I bet you [Edited] would give a singer like Ashanti, (who can't sing or write a lick) or those young cats B2k props but cant give Kelly his respect. you gotta be fucking kidding me. 8 solo albums, and 15 years in the game is all that needs to be said. And not to mention the countless songs that he has written for other people that have been hits. Know what, all this shit is pointless anyway. You [Edited] can say what ever you want to you know why, because R. kelly's album sales are all that need to be said.

Dont give a damn about these accusations of child molestation. That's his business and not mine, but i have to give credit where credits due. And that aint for his "lyrical genius" or "amazing songs" *sarcasm* but for the fantastic piece of unintentional comedy that he created with trapped in the closet. Its quite obvious that the guys a fool but comedians have been trying to create stuff that funny for years and he goes and does it by accident. Good work.

You guys should stop taking those Hate pills they give you in the US and lighten up. This is the funniest thing made in years, R kelly is a absolute comedy genius. This thing does the rounds where I',m from. I even saw it posted on several comedy sites where people think R kelly is a comedian, not a singer :o I can't wait to start singing about "washing up the dishes" dishes, dishes...

In the month of July 2008, I went to the library in my municipality and borrowed as many R. Kelly CDs as possible. I don't know why, but I guess I just wanted to know/confirm what makes the guy thick.
After listening to all, I proclaim him the best (R&B/Soul/Hip-hop) singer ever, after Michael Jackson of course.
Now, I don't know what or how you Americans think, and I don't actually think I give a damn - All I know is R. Kelly is da best.
How do I rate my music?
-By how many times I want to hear a track over and over during my first time of hearing it.
-By how many times I want to hear a track over and over after the first time I have heard it.
-Whether I remember it immediately after waking from a deep sleep.
80% of R. Kelly songs and CDs fit this criteria for me.
    So, he's the best! Period
