Juicebox Lyrics
Everybody sees me
But its not that easy
Standing in the lightfield
Standing in the lightfield
Waiting for some action
Waiting for some action
Why wont you come over here
Why wont you come over here
We've got a city to love
Why wont you come over here
We've got a city to love
The Strokes are often described as the quintessential example of a rock band that was conceived, born and raised within the confines of the New York City rock scene. First Impressions of Earth is said to be their "coming of age" project. There is a certain maturity evident in the songs on the disc that lends credence to that concept. So the description of the band above does seem accurate to me and besides, I like the whole metaphor thing that I did there.

The CD is released by RCA Records/BMG and is as well put together as any big label release. The cover/lyrics book contains all the lyrics to the songs and each has it's own page backed by appealing, sort of avant garde, art images. The CD has an "explicit content" warning on it but don't worry mom and dad, nothing in it is going to melt those little minds. There is the "F" word maybe once and the "S" word a few times and the "a-hole" word once...yawn. Beyond that there is a cartoon of a cute little blond with a pair of cute boobs and a cartoon of a naked girl lying on her stomach with a leopard. Pretty tame really, I think USA Today is often more risque'.

Let me ask this question: if the first two Strokes albums bored the Hell out of you, is this one mature and ambitious enough to make you rethink the band?

The first two didn't bore me but if they had I think I would say yes, this one would make me have another look at them.

I think the albatross 'round the necks of Strokes is that they got it right the first time. I don't think they will ever escape Is This It?.
First Impressions is not a bad record and neither was Room on Fire. They just don't have the same spark as that debut.
