Take Me To The Land of Jazz, released on Delmark Records, is quite the collection of classic Jazz numbers, preformed by an accomplished group of percussions and horns.
The first ten songs feature Billy Butterfield on trumpet as well as Andy Bartha on coronet. They were recorded live in the early seventies at Ray Gluth’s Lounge in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Butterfield was nearly an exclusive studio musician in the fifties and sixties, only occasionally doing live dates, which makes Take Me to The Land Of Jazz a special treat.
The remaining five songs were recorded live November 2, 1969, at the top Gallant Room of the Moonraker Restaurant in Fort Lauderdale.
Highlights of the album include “Memphis Blues” and “Take me to the Land of Jazz” which feature Billy “Fats” Hagen on Piano.
All of the tracks are classic jazz with a strong blue’s influence. The tempo is upbeat swing and it is an uplifting addition to my collection.
