CD Review: Shel Silverstein's Runny Babbit

Shel Silverstein's works rarely fail to put a smile on our faces and Runny Babbit ranks up there as one of the bunnier fooks for kids and adults. The book makes a perfect transition to CD because hearing the reader say, “bings thackwards” is a delight. The book's approach to the tongue twisters is more fun than Pig Latin (unny-Bay abbit-Ray).

I reviewed The Best of Shel Silverstein CD, and it was a big disappointment. Runny Babbit is exactly what I expected: fun, light reading. Some children's books on CD have annoying background music and uncomfortable sounds, but not this one. Former singer with Dr. Hook, Dennis Locorriere, reads the stories with a warm and animated voice.

Not all parents have the talent for reading children's books out loud, so audio books are beneficial for children. Even those who do well reading aloud might have trouble with bis thook and its leversing retters. Whee sat I mean? This reversal of first letters in words should help improve reading, listening, and thinking.

I attend speech and listening therapy to get the most out of my cochlear implant and this is a great tool for people getting similar therapy.

Listing to the CD makes a great opportunity for valuable parent-child time. Watching the kids listen to Runny Babbit is a joy because they laugh so hard and you join them.
