CD review: Race against Time - It's Mellow But Not Quiet

Race Against Time
Ed Parish
(Manila)

Ed Parish most reminded me of a recent CD I reviewed by Bill Colby. While secular in nature, Ed has quite a bit to say with his guitar and excellent voice.

His Christmas song 'Happy Christmas Mr Blair' is a protest song that is both funny and effective; whether or not you actually agree with his point. It mostly works because Ed's voice is clear and precise; the music clean and simple.

The title track is about his watching a cancer sufferer deal with her disease; the song is as beautiful as it is powerful. "Wanna Be' is a wonderful piss-take on the cosmetic surgery obsessed.

There are many singer-songwriters who attempt to do what Ed seems to be able to do so easily. If you like the simple good tune, sung by a good vocalist then this is something to be recomended. The fact he is getting attention in his part of the UK is no surprise.
