I really don’t need to do a review of the music contained on the Modest Mouse album Good News for People Who Love Bad News. It has already taken it's place among the rare breed of recordings that can be considered "classics". The 2004 release saw huge critical success (as well as commercial success). It received an A+ grade from such movers and shakers as the Village Voice, Tiny Mix Tapes, Filter Magazine, Spin Magazine, Rolling Stone and The New York Times for its brilliance in the face of major label hype. This album will always be remembered as one of a handful that helped launch Indie music into the mainstream just as bands like U2, The Talking Heads and R.E.M. launched "Alternative" music.
As the DualDisc medium takes hold, it was only a matter of time until Good News for People Who Love Bad News was released in the new format.
For those not familiar, a DualDisc is a single disc that contains the regular CD on one side and a DVD on the other. They sell for roughly the price of what CDs used to sell for (between $14.99 and $19.99). It's a way for the music industry to grow profits while actully giving the consumer more. What an concept! (read sarcasm)
The CD side includes all of the original tracks plus tha addition of "I've Got It All (Most)", which was the B side of the super-hit "Float On". The song appears not at the very end as a bonus track, but right in the middle of the CD as track #7.
It's great to have a shiny new copy to replace your worn out original, but it's the DVD side of the disc that makes it extra special. It features the entire album in enhanced LPCM stereo that will make audiophiles smile big. Also included are the extremely creative music videos for Float On and Ocean Breathes Salty. Since old guys like me just don't watch music video channels anymore, it was a real pleasure to see the videos for the very first time.

I have been so close to buying this album a couple of times. I might have to break down and do it.

don't bother. the album is mildly interesting at best.

I disagree with The Theory. The original album is a masterpiece and well worth the price (not sure about the dualdisc though).

a true modest mouse-esque masterpiece would be the Ugly Casanova cd "Sharpen Your Teeth." Even though it is only a MM side project.

If you have any interest in music whatsoever you simply must have this album, it's like not having The Wall, or The White Album or Back in Black, or The Josua Tree.

Great album, Ocean Breathes Salty and World at Large are just a few of the incredible, deep sounds that thrive the passion that modest mouse is truely known for. Issiac opens up and sings about whatever the fuck he wants to with such compassion and shows his real voice in this album.
