CD review: Living & Dying

Living & Dying
Dark Sky
(AOR Heaven)

Considering the other release I got in this batch from AOR Heaven, I was a bit worried about Dark Sky. The name does not necessarily evoke confidence, specifically since they aren't a black metal band.

I need not have worried however, as no label would be mad enough to release two turkeys in a row. In fact, Dark Sky is great fun, in a Europe/Euro-rock sort of way. Truth is, this band are rather similar to Europe's pre-Final Countdown era of material with hints of "1984"-era Van Halen.

Yes, that means that keyboards do feature a wee bit in this band's material, but generally not too much. At 13 tracks, you get value for money as well. The choruses are catchy, and the songs go along nicely. Some of the highlights are the straight ahead hard rock of the title track, a wonderful ballad called "You are my life," and "Light up the Darkness."

No one would argue this is anything groundbreaking or cutting edge, but that does not mean it's bad. As with many discs this album gets better with each listen. I expect I shall return to this CD in the coming days.
