What’s the 4-1-1?
Domeshots’ story begins in San Francisco – inciting riots in the basements of house parties across the Bay Area. Early versions of the band’s bio claimed the band members didn’t exist prior to forming the band – "Each member was specifically designed and engineered by a team of scientists hoping to bestow the most possible amount of rock into four individuals." After two years on the road, Domeshots have returned with their sophomore effort.

Hard rock / modern rock / alternative
The Good
The opening track “Shoulder” mixes hints of vocal melody with a splattering of vocal ferociousness. The group tops it all of with some infectious guitar riffs. “Lil’ Bloodnose” still has the power and fury of its predecessor, but features more piercing guitar runs. “OMG” is by far my favorite song on the album. At first I thought it was a joke on how moronic and stupid people can be, but in the end I realized there’s a deep meaning. The driving repetitive chorus is sure to burn into you head for weeks.
The album’s title track “Reception” could easily pass for a rock radio single. Domeshots still manages to stay heavy while tuning things down a bit to appeal to a broader audience. Vocalist Danner (that’s right, just Danner) flexes his vocal muscles on “Ego & Existence,” while guitarist Jim Seishas lays down more biting guitar runs. “Dawn Chemote” barrels along like a race car burning down the straightaway. Dave Criss’ percussive work shines on “The Hive,” as he makes flawless tempo switches.
The Bad
Nothing notable
The Verdict
I was a little apprehensive when I received the new Domeshots release, because I absolutely hated their first album. After listening to Reception though, it’s clear that the group has vastly improved in both songwriting and as musicians. The group’s combination of heavy riffs, infectious licks, driving drum beats, and powerful yet melodic vocals is everything you’d expect from this genre. Reception is coming in loud and clear…and it rocks!
