CD review: Angell of Angst?

Come Down
Tara Angell
(Ryko)

During the 90s there was a certain tendency of record companies to seek out the most miserable female singer-songwriters they could. Female angst rock was a big deal and there were festivals, the Lilith Fair, that featured endless supplies of this sort of music. Ms Angell would have fit right in their company. The best discription of this woman is that she sings like Sinead O'Connor at her most whingeing. Its dire, dreary and depressing...this is from someone who likes goth music. Come Down has the destinction of being the first album I have ever listened to that gave me headache every time I listened to it. I realised it came from the music as it ended when the disc ended. The musicianship its actually not that bad, its just the god awful whingeing vocals that ruin things. Songs are seriously lacking as well. This is a truly dire slap of music and one that reminds me the downside to be a music reviewer. There are no highlights on this disk, its just utter rubbish. Avoid like the you would any other plague.
