CD Review: Andrea Bocelli — Amore'

Andrea Bocelli, the classical composer and operatic tenor, has delivered a sensual and romantic collection of pop standards in his newest release, Amore, which arrived on stores shelves, Jan 31.

Bocelli grew up on a farm in Lajatico, a rural village in Tuscany. He was born with poor eyesight, and became totally blind at the age of 12 following a soccer accident. He began piano lessons at the age of six, and later widened his musical horizons to the flute and saxophone.

Despite his obvious musical talents, Bocelli didn't consider a career in music until after he had earned a Doctor Of Law degree from the University of Pia. Inspired to pursue music, he studied with famed tenor Franco Corelli, supporting himself by performing in piano bars.

Andrea Bocelli's latest release, Amore features duets with Stevie Wonder and Christina Aguilera and Mario Reyes and Kenny G both lend musical talents. Not to be mistaken for anything else, this is an album for the romantic at heart. Bocelli's voice is crystal clear and full in the delivery of each and every track.

Even though the languages on the CD vary, Italian, Spanish, French and two in English, the tone and beauty translates loud and clear (or soft and smooth) no matter what tongue the song is being sung in. "Can't Help Falling in Love" is one of the two that are sung in English, and poetically, is a live version delivered from Las Vegas (The stomping grounds of originator Elvis Presley). I will always have a fond place in my heart for this song as it was featured in my own wedding, but this is as breath taking of adaptation of the song as I've ever heard.

The Aguilera Duet, "Somo Novios (It's Impossible)" is exceptionally beautiful. The song is famously known for Perry Como's English translation, and if at all possible, this rendition is silkier and dreamier. Their voices compliment each other fully and completely.

He is truly a special voice. I enjoyed his appearances on American Idol recently. It was the first time I had seen him perform.
