Carrie Underwood Takes Home Two CMA Awards

Nashville smiled right back at Carrie Underwood at the Country Music Association Awards tonight, and sent the message that she’s paid her dues. As the only female artist to earn an award in any category, she had her work cut out for her in this male dominated winners' circle.

Of the four categories she was nominated in, Underwood walked away with the Horizon Award and Female Vocalist of the Year (see my predictions). The remaining two awards for Single of the Year and Video of the Year went to Brooks & Dunn for “Believe.”

As a part of her acceptance speech for the Horizon Award, Underwood thanked her label, American Idol, and her fans. Her second win of the night rendered her visibly more emotional as she named this “the best night of my life.” She clearly has many, many more to come.

Early on in the show, Underwood performed a leggy rendition of her hit “Before He Cheats,” strutting around the stage like a woman on fire. Ronnie Dunn introduced the performance by announcing “since she performed…at the CMA awards last year, she’s only sold 4 million albums.” Her wins tonight are sure to push those numbers higher still.

During her red carpet interview, Underwood mentioned she would be auctioning off her gown (valued at $850,000) on the website Gotta Have It!, with a portion of the proceeds going to the Humane Society of the United States for their Rural Area Veterinary Services Program.

One final note, the rumor mill will be flying as Anthony Fedorov accompanied Underwood to the event. Fedorov, American Idol alum, has long been known as a close friend.
