incredible talent as they sing and scream their way through awesome hardcore
glory. Absolutely incredible. Released February 19, 2002.

A sad farewell to an unbelievable band. Zao's latest album culminates an incredible band's journey. Free the three, an incredible track form this disc may be the band's best song to date. Released July 16, 2002.
4. Time In Malta - Second Engine
What can I say about this band? they defy explanation and categorization. They can do it all and are one of the up and comers in the hardcore world. If you like good music, these guys are a sure bet. Released July 9, 2002.
5. Norma Jean - Bless the Martyr...Kiss the Child
This disc blows out of the water the band's first effort. Not only did they make my top five, they also get my most improved award for 2002. they have a couple of stop-starts in this disc that will take your breath away. Released August 13, 2002

1. mewithoutyou - [A->B] Life
This album was listened to daily for the first 3 months that I owned it. Now it's at least listened to once a week. The garage rock, meets hardcore, meets post-punk, meets emotion is beautiful to my ears. The emotional lyrics get me to sing along while I dance to the music. Production is superb since it was done by J. Robbins and that makes the whole package all the more attractive. Released June 18, 2002
2. The Hives - Veni, Vidi, Vicious
This year has been my introduction and then full force exposure to real rough rock n' roll. I hadn't heard much of anything from MC5, the Velvet Underground, or even the Ramones until this past year and The Hives have infected and effected me the most. The Hives put out a harsh, raw, swagger infested punk record. The drums pound, the guitars wail, and the vocals screech, scream, sing, squeak, and wail their way through your speakers and into your brain. They are real, barely even produced and it shouldn't be any other way. Released April 30, 2002
3. Norma Jean - Bless the Martyr Kiss The Child
Brutal breakdowns and plenty of room for you to throw your body around, but I should say more. Whether the song breaks into brutality immediately or slowly works it's way there it will always leave you begging for more. To solve this problem CD players have a wonderful device called the repeat button. The guest appearance by mewithoutyou vocalist Aaron makes this even more enjoyable. Released August 13, 2002

What about Sigur Ros?? Can I hear it for Sigur Ros? Anyone?

So for Christmas people gave me CD's and 2 of these have the chance of making my top 5 if I would have had them before I wrote the top 5.
Anthallo - Sparrows: This is good. It makes all other emo look silly and unimportant
Hopesfall - The Satellite Years: melodic hardcore but better then the other melodic hardcore bands. It's beauty mixed with brutality
so consider these honorable mentions

Matt DeBenedictis writes:
Cornell is conservative? I didn't know that; I guess I just assumed that because he hangs out with the Vedder crowd, he's a leftie. Are you sure?; if true, it's too bad, although it doesn't effect my admiration for his talents.

yes Cornell is know to be conservative. in what end I'm not sure as he is not very public about his political convictions. That was the first thing he made clear when Audioslave started no politics...human rights..yes. Politics no.
"I have allways respected Chris for never backing down on his convictions." Eddie Vedder speaking on Chris cornell.
If you remember chris did some rock the vote PSA's back in the day on MTV. Which he soon spoke out against because rock the vote was using it's platform to get kids to vote democratic straight ticket style. Which even though I'm far from a conservative Chris was right to speak out like he did. Rock the vote was shifty and not honest.

Thanks! I have a friend who's a big Soundgarden fan, and he said the same thing. He's a conservative himself, so i guess i should have figured.
I take solace in the thought that Cornell can't be all THAT conservative if he hangs out with ex-Ragers and with Vedder.
And you're right about Rock the Vote; that was a fraud, little more than a Clinton front group, really.

Rock the Vote was lame. Instead of having kids get informed they just brainwashed them..lame...I don't really like Audioslave, but that's not the point.

I didn't forget the Stavesacre record. I think it's an a mazing record. their best to date. I just felt the other records i mentioned had a bigger effect than that record did.
