2. Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot
This is the record that almost wasn’t. After being an online record for so long it finally came to stores and to much surprise no one could really figure out exactly why this record got them dropped from their previous label other that it was too damn good. The records fresh melodies and intricate musicianship left them to only be described as the alt country radiohead. This truly was a daring record this year and is probably as I’ve been told the record of the year to make out to. Released April 23, 2002.
3. Bruce Springsteen - The Rising
After a reunion tour with the E-Street Band this record was very well anticipated since it was the first record Bruce had recorded with them since "Born in the USA". This record was full of the honesty and darkness underlined with hope that no one can communicate like Springsteen. The production of this record accompanied by the energy of the band has made it stand out among many other Springsteen records and fellow albums that came out this year as well. Released November 12, 2002.
4. Andrew W.K. - I Get Wet
These days everyone seems to be either be a critic or trying to make the most "technical" song in the world by ripping off their influences. Well when everyone is acting like uptight assholes the biggest revolution is to bring it back to the basics. Simple songs that are the party itself. This record came out at the right time and we have not even begun to feel the effects of this record and the live experience. His live shows are filled with everyone from every scene possible. Not more attitude everyone can agree loud and fun is the most revolutionary sound. The Ramones proved this once…Andrew had to prove it again. Released March 26, 2002.
5. Cee-Lo Green and His Perfect Imperfections - Cee-Lo Green and His Perfect Imperfections
Sometimes I feel as hip hop is dead or maybe it’s just that originality in the art form is very rare. Cee-Lo came out of the illustrious Dungeon Family, the same crew that brought us Outkast, and he brought with him a rocking funk band and a presence that most rock stars dream of. Those this record did take time to grow on me it full sounds and elements of funk, motown, and that oh sweet sound of man mountain that is Cee-Lo made me listen to this record for the whole year. Released March 19, 2002.

1. Living Sacrifice - Conceived in Fire
Incredible breakdowns coupled with the heaviest vocals yet from Bruce
Fitzhugh make Concieved in Fire an unreal experience. Fasten your seat belts
and put on your elbow pads as this disc literally explodes with double bass
drums and screaming riffs. Released September 24, 2002.

What about Sigur Ros?? Can I hear it for Sigur Ros? Anyone?

So for Christmas people gave me CD's and 2 of these have the chance of making my top 5 if I would have had them before I wrote the top 5.
Anthallo - Sparrows: This is good. It makes all other emo look silly and unimportant
Hopesfall - The Satellite Years: melodic hardcore but better then the other melodic hardcore bands. It's beauty mixed with brutality
so consider these honorable mentions

Matt DeBenedictis writes:
Cornell is conservative? I didn't know that; I guess I just assumed that because he hangs out with the Vedder crowd, he's a leftie. Are you sure?; if true, it's too bad, although it doesn't effect my admiration for his talents.

yes Cornell is know to be conservative. in what end I'm not sure as he is not very public about his political convictions. That was the first thing he made clear when Audioslave started no politics...human rights..yes. Politics no.
"I have allways respected Chris for never backing down on his convictions." Eddie Vedder speaking on Chris cornell.
If you remember chris did some rock the vote PSA's back in the day on MTV. Which he soon spoke out against because rock the vote was using it's platform to get kids to vote democratic straight ticket style. Which even though I'm far from a conservative Chris was right to speak out like he did. Rock the vote was shifty and not honest.

Thanks! I have a friend who's a big Soundgarden fan, and he said the same thing. He's a conservative himself, so i guess i should have figured.
I take solace in the thought that Cornell can't be all THAT conservative if he hangs out with ex-Ragers and with Vedder.
And you're right about Rock the Vote; that was a fraud, little more than a Clinton front group, really.

Rock the Vote was lame. Instead of having kids get informed they just brainwashed them..lame...I don't really like Audioslave, but that's not the point.

I didn't forget the Stavesacre record. I think it's an a mazing record. their best to date. I just felt the other records i mentioned had a bigger effect than that record did.
