Bright Eyes starts work on new album
Bright Eyes has started work on the follow up to 2005's DigitalAsh in a Digital Urn and I’m Wide Awake, It’s Morning. The still-untitled album is currently expected out next Spring on Saddle Creek. It is going to move away from the activist songs of the 2005 releases towards more traditional songwriting.
Tower Records sets to open digital store
Tower Records is expected to open its digital download store tomorrow, Tower.com/digital. It is expected to promote the digital alternative across all media along with its retail business. The store is expected to offer 1.2 million tracks at US $0.99 with entire albums selling for US$ 9.99. The service is powered by Puretracks. The music will be in Microsoft’s Windows Media Audio format and encoded at a higher bitrate than most of its competitors.
ScooptWords to offer bloggers opportunity to sell content to mainstream media
Media Agency Scoopt is launching a blog service that will allow bloggers to sell their content commercially. Bloggers can sign up to ScooptWords for free and carry a button on their blogs that will allow editors to click on it to license content. Editors will be charged a “fair market rate” with the blogger receiving 75% of the revenue. Scoopt is working with Creative Commons and was originally set up as a picture agency.
