Damn, I love this music! Jazz music is the best in the world! It is full of wonderful sounds and people who are dedicated to preserving the art. I had the best time hanging with Bobby Hutcherson, Rosemary, Chet Hanley and John Heard at Vibrato, an absolutely wonderful place designed and featured as one on LA's elite jazz clubs
for the best in jazz entertainment.
Tonight, Bobby Hutcherson, certainly the world's greatest vibe player, played to a dinner crowd that stopped, listened and enjoyed the music. From the fire to the sweet sounds of the ballads, Bobby lulled the audience to a silent whisper with tunes like "Delilah," "Who's got you," "Embrace Me" and many of his other wonderful pieces.
Vibrato, high on the hill in Bel Air, is not just a great place, it is an experience. Pat Senetor runs a wonderful jazz club and has some outstanding talent that comes through the place. Kenny Werner was there with Toots, Billy Childs, tonight's show with the great Bobby Hutcherson and, in a few weeks, Kenny Barron.
You can tell Bobby really enjoyed playing with these cats. He said that "these guys get excited about every note" and that was apparently true! Geoff Keezer on piano, Jeff Chambers on Bass and Eddie Marshall on drums provide the perfect bed of magic to plant the "Vibes of Joy" in. Eddie said that he and Bobby have been playing ever since they were 14 years old. The comradely is as strong as the sound!
It is so wonderful to see such talented musicians dig deep inside the music! The love for jazz and all it's wonders never ends.
