"Bob Marley: Roots, Rock, Reggae Festival": Sons of Bob Hit the Road

Bowing to the inevitable - I wonder how long this idea has been on the table - the Marley boys are taking to the road to celebrate dad's legacy and do a few tunes of their own as well:

Ziggy, Stephen, Julian, Damian and Ky-Mani Marley - five sons of music legend Bob Marley - have announced the debut and launch of the "Bob Marley: Roots, Rock, Reggae Festival." The summer concert tour will kick off in Virginia in early August with a four-week series of North American dates. The cross-continent itinerary - which will see the four brothers performing as part of one uniquely talented band - marks the first time the iconic reggae pioneer's family has officially presented and collaborated on a tour, coast-to-coast under their father's name.

Launched in association with the William Morris Agency, the festival-styled performances will see the Marley siblings performing a mix of each brother's individual solo material in addition to many of their father's best-loved classics. With some two-dozen dates slated across North America, the tour will also feature such diverse star performers as Toots and the Maytals, Common, Nappy Roots, Blackalicious, Slightly Stoopid, Looner and Stone Love featuring MC/DJ G-Fuss.

Bob Marley's music - now 23 years since the artist's passing in 1981 - remains timeless and universal alongside his reputation as one of the most charismatic and influential singer/songwriters in popular music history. In 1994, Marley was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and five years later his celebrated song, "Get Up, Stand Up," was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. In the U.S., Bob Marley & the Wailers have nine RIAA gold-certified albums and one double-platinum album, along with the 10-times platinum certified hits collection, "Legend."

The Marleys, Toots, Slightly Stoopid, Looner and Stone Love featuring MC/DJ G-Fuss will be on all dates. Common, Blackalicious and Nappy Roots will appear on select dates only.

Looks like a good tour. I believe it was Julian years ago that tried a solo career but the dreads thought that his music wasn't ready yet. Now it is, or at least he has a vehichle to display his talents. The family thing with Bob Marley really gives light to how deep his message was/is.

I wish a talent buyer would pick up a date for the Northwest neck of the woods. Well, that usually means a Seattle-Portland-Vancouver B.C. pick up. It is a long way up here to play just one show, unless one of these cities does an arena sized show for the region.

I see we have a Cleveland date - it seems odd that there is nothing at all in your area yet, Douglas. Maybe you should book it!

Eric, after seeing your article on this tour posted, I immediately e-mailed a few major promotions folks in the area giving them a heads-up on the deal. Since the closest it gets to here is the Bay Area on Aug. 29th, I went after the folks who put on the massive Labor Day weekend arts festival out here known as Bumbershoot.

Now, there is an idea for another article! Bumbershoot features days of major artists on many different stages for the weekend. I could not imagine more bang for the buck anywhere. $15 for a day pass, yet you get to see hundreds of dollars worth of music should you see these artists at individual performances.

I would love to promote it, but I don't have that kind of money. Maybe next time if it is a good year... (lol).

    Thanx for the heads-up article!

Eric, right on!!! I just got an e-mail back from One Reel Productions here in Seattle. They told me that they are aware of the tour and they "are all over it".

It may happen here yet. Thanx for your awareness energy on this tour.

Natalie! How the f*** are you doing? Haven't communicated since "Porn Kills".

Anyway, it looks like the tour stops for your region is August 7 (Portsmouth, VA) or August 14 (Wilmington, DE). Yeah, that tour business is funny. It looks like those two dates are designed to cover the people of your region. Promoters at those two stops bought the show before anyone in Baltimore picked it up, and then any Baltimore/D.C. promoter gave up because Aug 7 and 14 create too much ticket buying competition to deal with, etc.....

Damn! Looks like what you have to do is is find a car to use (if you don't have one) and make a family adventure of it all. Reggae, bring de youth, mon.
Yeah, it would be a couple hour drive each way, but no biggy. It could be the perfect family bonding thing for you, husband, kids? Could be.

With the reggae and it is the Marley FAMILY Tour, there is a message in there, somewhere... Anyway, it is all a situation to achieve level vibes. And if I remember right, that is something you are looking for, true? It could be a good family thing to do. A part of relieving the things stressing you. Or stress-I as we used to say on the rough reggae road.

Anyway, hope life is good for you.

Natalie!!!! I just went to the tour website. I would think the Wilmington, DE show would be the one to go to. Why? Tickets are way mass cheap, $20 adv., $25 d.o.s.. Pretty much the best prices on the whole tour. Other towns tickets are running as high as $75!!! A bunch of stops are running from $30-$50.

I quit paying for concerts once ticket prices hit $30.

    Anyway, just tryin' to help.

    I-rie,
    plg

It worked!!! Refer to comments #3,5,7. This tour is hitting my town on Labor Day for the Bumbershoot Festival. Wicked! That means I can see the show (and every other name artist playing that day) for $15.

Thanks for the heads up, Eric!
