Blogcritics Goodie Bag: Beatles, Jibbs, Taylor Hicks, Test Your Reflex, and UGK

Part of: Blogcritics Goodie Bag

After being asked by the remaining Beatles, Ringo and Paul, along with Yoko Ono Lennon and Olivia Harrison, to make experimental mixes from their master tapes for a collaboration with Cirque du Soleil, Sir George Martin, The Beatles legendary producer, and his son Giles Martin have been working with the entire archive of Beatles recordings to create LOVE. The result is an unprecedented approach to the music. Using the master tapes at Abbey Road Studios, Sir George and Giles have created a unique soundscape. The release of this album, which is also featured in the Cirque du Soleil/Apple Corps collaborative production of the same name at The Mirage in Las Vegas, has been much anticipated. Check out the e-card, screensavers and wallpaper downloads, and audio streams of these songs: "Lady Madonna" (lo|hi), "Octopus's Garden" (lo|hi), "Strawberry Fields Forever" (lo|hi), and "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" (lo|hi).

Earlier this month, we had the streaming audio for Jibbs' song "King Kong" featuring Chamillionaire. Now we have the video. Enjoy.

Taylor Hicks, the 30 year-old Birmingham, AL native that captured the hearts and minds of more than 63 million people who voted him this year's American Idol, is gearing up to release his debut album on December 12. After spending many years honing his talent, playing local bars, recording a pair of indie albums, and giving up his personal life to pursue his dreams, Taylor's moment has finally arrived. Check out two tracks from the album: "The Runaway" (lo|hi) and "Dream Myself Awake" (lo|hi).

Test Your Reflex's debut album The Burning Hour won't be released until next year, but in the mean time you can watch the video for the single "Pieces of the Sun":

Jive recording artist UGK returns in December after a long hiatus with their long awaited seventh album U.G.K. Underground Kingz. Group members Bun B and Pimp C return with a double album that features twenty new tracks, including the single "The Game Belongs To Me" (lo|hi).

I'd forgotten how good the Beatles were. While My Guitar Weeps is one of their best songs musically and has never gotten the attention it deserves. In this new recording it shines. I recommend this CD greatly.

A pass on Taylor Hicks. It's pop crap, badly sung.

I'm looking forward to hearing more from The Burning Hour.

UGK has a funky rhythm which quickly gets old. I prefer to smash my head against a wall than listening to it.

This is the song that better defines Taylor Hicks off his new CD,"The Right Place". The A.I. machine will have some influence, that's a given, but this track is pure Taylor.

Don't write off Taylor Hicks too soon. There's some good pop music on his upcoming cd but there is a lot more in it too and much more yet to come on future recordings.
I don't think the Beatles were against pop - besides Sgt Pepper and Let It Be there was I Want To Hold Your Hand, Help and Please Please Me.
And like the previous poster mentioned try Taylor's The Right Place or check out his website

Ahhhhh.... The Right Place! This would be Dr. Hicks' prescription for those of us who are sick from the drek that passes for music these days.

Caution - Highly addictive. So is Taylor!

Some masters should never be remastered. I have my Beatles collection. I don't need to buy this "new" record.

These 3 songs are worthy of a fresh listen even if you didn't love American Idol. One song gets you moving, one gets your juices flowing (did Taylor Hicks really sing those lyrics??!), and the slow one is legitimately Grammy-worthy. Taylor Hicks has proven to be a real musician with a strong voice and this album is going to make for one heck of a great concert tour.
