  I was somewhat puzzled to read that the Black Eyed Peas supported the Gropenator for governor of California. Sounds like they have yet to have developed a political consciousness at 30. Most of their songs support that -- good beat, fun lyrics, but very, very shallow.
  
  Having heard more than my share of good dance music, I am not all that impressed with BPE.
  
  As for Fergie, she seems to be decoration. I'm curious to hear her actually sing something.
  
  Meanwhile, I'll be kicking back with hip hoppers who actually think -- the Roots, Nappy Roots and Jadakiss.

  And, oh, there are only two members from breakdancing crews -- William and the Chicano fellow who calls himself Taboo. Fergie didn't even join the group until last year. Her stage presence comes from being a TV brat from Kids Inc..

  I am somewhat confused by your statements: Fergie is the female vocalist of the group - when you hear a female voice on their songs, it is her singing. I don't see that as a decorative role.
  
  I said, The multiracial Peas - will.i.am, apl.de.ap, Taboo, and new singer Fergie - began as a breakdancing troupe in L.A. in the early-'90s all of which is true, including "new singer Fergie"
  
  And I am certain that they see themselves as thinkers and socially conscious, but you are more than free to not see them that way.

  But, Fergie doesn't sing. She doo-wops. Even I can do that. (Anyone in need of a good soulful 'Yeah!' or 'Uh huh!' should consider the Diva if they are willing to pay a couple thousand per pop.) And, that is only on newer songs. Kim Hill, the former female member of BPE, is the one who can actually sing. So far Fergie is just a female body. She needs to prove herself.
  
  But, this thread will do fine at Blogcritics. Every twelve-year-old or person who thinks like a twelve-year-old will love it. Never mind the inaccuracies. As an adult, I tend to be rather picky. BPE is a good dance music group. That's all.

  I am not responsible for the thread, just the post, and there are no inaccuracies in it - everyone is always free to come to their own conclusions about whether they like something or not - there is no right or wrong regarding taste - but everything stated herein is factual, accurate, and I hear the woman sing all over the album - I'm not sure what else is required of her to be considered something other than "decoration." Please don't tell me you are offended by her race.

  C'mon, Mac :) Admit it. She's hot. That sells records, even if they lack any street cred. You can at least admit she's hot, right?
  
  I don't think anyone is confused about BEP being whitey crossover hip hop, just like Outkast. It is what it is.
  
  For all the rest of you, stay tuned for the Rotterdam, Croatia, and all of Maine tour (Scarborough AND Portland!).

  Bob, I agree that Fergie adds sex appeal to the group. (Taboo might be a great dancer, but he ain't much to look at.)
  
  I've been aware of BPE for about three years, partly because they've been in Macintosh magazines. All their songs are done on William's PowerBook using Protools. And, of course they had an iTunes commercial. In the time I've been aware of them, I've watched for growth and not seen much. On the other hands, the Nappy Roots, younger than they are, have really grown.
  
  In regard to politics, I notice a lot of praise for BPE at the same time more thoughtful hip hop artists such as Jadakiss are being dissed by conservative white folks. Negro spinning on head = good. Negro holding Shrub responsible for 9/11 = bad. (Could just be a coincidence, I suppose.)
  
  As someone who has written entries praising Joss Stone, Johny Lang, and other artists who happen to be white, I could be offended by the accusation of not liking someone because she of her race. (Which I'm not even sure of.) Being a generous person, I have decided not to be.

  Oh my god i am such a huge fan! I've been looking for a site like this for like ever! I am so in love with Taboo!   As for the comments between Eric and Mac Diva about BPE... I wouldn't be so quick to call them great(I actually can't stand them) because "Dance Music" is always produceable...(I believe the early 90's was alittle too late for Breakdancing) The fact that they incorporate live musicans on stage is the only smart thing I have heard them do...Putting samples of certain genres(i.e;jazz,funk,etc..) doesn't make them fusion and using the word "Retard" in one their songs doesn't make them humanly conscious nevermind politcally. But, I guess because the Homosexual party now has a voice from certain confused political leaders that makes beating a certain underprivileged group(Mentally Handicapped) of people back to the stone age okay... To me, BPE is useless filler for people on cell phones who wouldn't know what slick over-produced garbage was even though they bought the cd. Mac Diva is right about one thing Fergie was straining big time at the Grammy's but I don't feel the whole group performed at all either...Maybe they should stick to writing and let the live band do the work. Justin timberlake could've held the stage on his own, and the mere fact that they had anything to do with Papa Roach just shows their inability to understand good music. Granted there is no right or wrong in taste but there is truth in musicianship and neither BPE or Papa Roach has it!!
