BC Podcast - The Mondo Radio Thing Episode Six!! ADULTS ONLY

Part of: Mondo Radio

Disclaimer - The Mondo Irlando Podcast contains more swearwords than one may find socially acceptable. A multitude of F's, plenty of Shit's, and even one or two C's get flung around the airwaves like nobody's business. If in doubt, do not listen, is what.

Disclaimer 2 - The Awakening - This particular instalment of The Mondo Radio Thing has been rated NC - 17 for Strong Sexual Content. You have been warned.

What the "podcast" phenomena concerns itself with is the amateur radio that kicks the clambering sterile arsehole of the commercial equivalent. You don't need an iPod to listen, just right-click and save the MP3, or left-click to listen online.

The Mondo Podcast Episode Six.mp3

If you wanna be surprised and stunned, don't scroll down, on account of what lies below is no more than a playlist, i.e., the songs what get blared herein;

The Buzzcocks - What Do I Get?

A perfect slab of punk-pop from everyone's favourite love-lorn Mancs. The Smiths don't count for such a label, since you can only be love-lorn if you WANT love, as in physical touching and leaking. Morrissey just wanted to yack about Wilde and maybe sniff some gladioli's.

The Nips - All The Time In The World

Before Lord Shane MacGowan was fronting The Pogues, he was fronting these buncha London rapscallions. Brilliant, frantic punk delirium.

Elliot Smith - Memory Lane

A beautiful Beatles-esque number, all fingerpicking and double-tracked vocals. Far too pretty for a grot-fest like this, to be perfectly honest.

Jesse Malin - Riding On The Subway

One of the stand-outs from Jesse's marvellous debut solo record, The Fine Art Of Self Destruction, co-produced by the ever magnificent Ryan Adams.

Green Day - Who Wrote Holden Caulfield

One of those occasions when The Duke finds himself listening to something he hasn't listened to in years, and then next thing anyone knows it's bounding out The Mondo Podcast. This is from their second record, the criminally under-rated Kerplunk!

Fountains Of Wayne - Bright Future In Sales

Sometimes MTV get it right, man. Chances are you heard Hey Julie and Stacy's Mom blaring out the telly enough to sicken your guts tartan. This here is from the same album, Welcome Interstate Managers, and is further proof that the damn thing plays like a greatest hits set.

Duke -- I scrambled like a madman to get my ipod and such revved up to download your show and take it on the way with me to work.

Glad I did, too (as always): I went back and forth between laughing myself sick and then feeling slightly and actually sick... which I believe was the intended reaction, so good show then, sir.

Subversive brilliant edgy hilarious shock-art, or something less sublime (add your insult words here? I'll let others be the judge, though I'm edging toward the former. What that says about me... I'll deal with at another time.

Great great Buzzcocks song, Duke. Excellent mix of music and talk. You're inspiring me to add more music to my show.

    Subversive brilliant edgy hilarious shock-art

Much as i would wish that to be the case, i dare say it probably veers most towards "juevanile trash". Forgive my spelling.

I always think these things suck until such times as i get opinions, which is when i go back and listen and maybe arrive at the conclusion that they ain't so bad. i liked #5, mind you, and #3 i think is my all-time fave so far, but this, i dunno. certainly i think the Baise-Moi scene has the best sound-effects i've yet utilized.

anyhow, thanks man. you inspire a fella to keep the quality control at a reasonable rate, which isn't always easy, alas.

oh, and i hope that rather rude and vulgar off-the-cuff aside regarding your good self didn't conjur too many unpleasant images. heh.

    /golfclap

side note..am reminded of the great Duke this evening as i swim in audio/video courtesy of IFC...a good surround sound system and a showing the the Last Waltz

directed by Martin Scorsese, featuring the Band and a cast of plenty...

an older Version in the same flavor as what ya do (IMO) the video bridge between the History of the Midnight Ramble, the Golden Age of Rock, and the current explosion of creativity birthed in cyber-media...

but, enuff from this senile olde Troll..

    thanx Duke

    Excelsior!

gonzo, The last Waltz is one of my favourite flicks. Certainly one of my favourite Scorsese flicks, anyroad. The version of The Weight in that flick is just incredible.

god, im listening back to it again. that incredibles stuff went on much much longer than intended. I do apologise.

also, without being too vulgar, did everyone know what was going on in the intro? Very difficult to, um, put such images across without explicitly saying what's happening.

    Duke,

Am downloading it now. Of course, I am dial up and so have to leave it to run overnight. Should be ready by morning. Will drop on the iPod and listen to on the way to work. Denver is in a blizzard warning right now... so hell - I may have a 15 minute or 6 hour drive into work tomorrow. It's all good.

Yep, Colorado in April, if ya don't like the weather, wait 5 minutes.

Goood podcast, I will have to download the archives. That way I can switch between the audiobooks of Shakespeare and the equally cultured works of the Duke on road trips.

as i listen to these podcasts, especially when a new tune kicks in, i'm reminded of when i used to listen to the punk radio show on college friday nights ("Decline of the West, with Cecil Strange").

each tune comes blastin out an my urge to fling myself against the wall grows & grows.

    this is a good thing.

Ahh, another fine piece of podcasting. There's nothing walking along a crowded street listening to a man pull another man's pole. I thought to myself; "Folks, if you only knew what I'm listening to right now".
I had thought maybe I was being an unappreciative bastard when I posted about repeating Bright Eyes, but you seemed not too offended.
Excellent work again. Feel free to fuck one up once in a while, just to take the pressure off.

BTW, The pressure off yourself was what I meant to mean.

Lono, hope you enjoy it, man. And SFC, thank you. shakespeare will be smiling in his grave, i'm guessing. Incidentally, upon yet another listening, i noticed my odd pronounciation of Chaucer. Seemed alright at the time... hmm

mark, thats a brilliant reaction. This week was definately more punk orientated. Except mr smith, of course, but he would be an honourary punk, perhaps. a friend told me this had the best playlist yet. Personally i think it had a bit too much of the one thing.

and chris, the thought of you wandering around listening to that filth and smiling and nodding and so on at passers-by amuses me no end. I'm always very paranoid in such circumstances, convinced folks can hear it.

I finally got around to listening to this last night. Wow. My first Mondo Podcast, and what assails my virgin ears but buggery and handjobs for pay. And quite a good select of music, I might add.

    Brilliant work, Duke!

When I start up my own efforts at audio assonance, I think I'll keep it PG and all, but this suits you to a T.

    Duke-o:

I can't get a good download of #6 off the Mondoirlando site. It always stops in the middle of elastigirl getting stuck in the door. Hope the download from here works. You've titillated me.

    BTW, more Buzzcocks, dammit.

dave, this is very disturbing. i don't know what the problem is, man. i heard reports that a download from the mondo site a while back stopped at 11 minutes or thereabouts. these are the only two times i've heard of this though. god, does anyone have any ideas about what the hell's up?

dave, i would try again man. i just downloaded it, and the whole tihng came down. i don't know what happened with you, man. a temporary glitch is all, hopefully.

    Apr 12, 2005 at 1:28 pm

Duke -- I would definitely talk to your server people about the download problems.

Big question -- do you have a limit to the bandwidth associated with your server space? Could have something to do with that. / limits of my tech knowledge.

  • 22 - Temple Stark

    Apr 12, 2005 at 2:06 pm

I've had no problems downloading at all, though Eric's bandwidth limit point is a consideration. You can host at my site for free Duke. It says so right on the front page.

    Apr 12, 2005 at 2:28 pm

Temple - PLEASE hook up the Duke with the capability to set up an RSS feed. The Mondo show needs to hit a wider audience.

Duke, I meant to ask you, who was in the "studio" with you, and what exactly were they doing?

    I was confused.

dawn - um, that was Randy Drunken Scotsman. Up until Mondo Podcast 5 ihad a wee stuffy voiced fella doing the disclaimer at the start, but then i shot him at the start of number 5 on account of creative differences. Randy Scotsman agreed to do the disclaimer provided he could, um, have his way with me. which he did. god almighty.

Temple and Eric - the bandwith thing is most likely the cause. Temple, thank you a million for the offer, but i'm gonna try and maybe see how it goes. no sense using up someone elses bandwith when theres my own just sitting there. Maybe thats no even the problem.

and eric, i think the problem with my rss thing was that i linked to the web page, as oppossed to the actual mp3 files. il try again tommorow.

and phil, i almost missed you there, man. thanks for taking the time to give the mondo podcast a run through. that one was especially vulgar. i do hope my mother never hears it.
