ah Duke, I can only hope for another 45 minutes of brilliant venom, satire, and punk that the last podcasts have delivered. This one is being loaded onto the Podcast tonight, and I have about 6 hours of driving this weekend into the mountains (and back)... so it better be offensive.

I quickly lose interest in people talking when it isn't.

    Cheers!

This is my first foray into the Duke's podcast. I have listened up through The Rascall. I am very much enjoying it. And if it is OK for me to say, I love the accent, swearing with accents is great! Keepo it up!

Chris, thanks for jumpin onboard for a time! and yes, compliments regarding accent an swearing are very much appreciated...

    encouraged, even.

Duke, is that accent real? it sounds kinda Scottish (to my American ears) but I believe you are Irish and live in Ireland still.

Secretly, is the Duke really Billy Connoly?

Surely you can tell the difference between The Duke's Northern Ireland twang and the randy drunken Scotsman, Lono.

I'm about 2/3 of the way through #11 and am very much enjoying. My favorite word thus far of this ep:

    mustachioed

Lono, alas, the accent is real. here in this corner of the northern ireland, we have whats commonly referred to as an Ulster Scots accent. as opposed to Randy Drunken Scotsman, who doesn't appear this week, whose accent is purely scottish, with no Ulster. what are of scotland, i don't know, and i'm scared to ask.

Eric B, glad you're diggin the wares, man.

*that should be what AREA of scotland. and i'll add than the scots element of mine voice is a bit harsher maybe than a lot of folks round here, even. i've had folks from this very town ask if i'm scottish. and an old woman in a shop in Belfast one day asked if i was "here on holiday?". i just said aye, an yacked on about i come from Glasgow. much easier.

Living in the UK, I got the impression that Brit-types are much more senstitive and acutely attuned to accents than their Yank equivalents. Unless you have a strong Boston / Yonker / Louisiana Bayou upbringing, it's likely that people won't no where the hell you're from nowadays.

David Cross also does a pretty good bit in which he describes how the redneck accent is universial to every region of the U.S.

I've heard Cross' routine on that, and it's funny -- but inaccurate. I used to think that there was such a thing as a "southern accent" but since I've moved to Texas I've discovered that there is much regional variation within the "southern" accent, and my Mississippi-born and Louisiana-born coworkers don't really sound nearly as much like my Texas-born coworkers as I once thought.

Still, it's funny to think otherwise. 8^)

listenin back to this, it sounds suspiciously like the post-Rascall bit is scripted. no, it wasn't. and i'm referin to the tone of voice, not the material, since it's fairly obvious it ain't scripted one inch.

I never did listen to Eric B's podcast.

So now I'll play 'em back to back. Hmm, which one to go first? Maybe a podcast mash-up is just the ticket. I have the technology (now). We can build him.

    Off to tinker.

for the record, here's the first things i listened to today, my first day back to the haze of work after a week of staring at the ocean and drooling onto the front of my shirt:

    1. latest mondo irlando podcast
    2. White Stripes - Get Behind Me Satan
    3. latest dumpster bust poscast
    4. The Pogues - Run, Sodomy & the Lash

Duke, I finally finished # 11 today. Brilliant as always, and hilarious. I'd like to start linking your podcasts directly through my site, but we can talk about about offline (on the yahoo group). I'll be hopefully working on that tonight late after work.

in the meantime, I am going to novelty stores and smashing anything with a dolphin on it. Normally the owners get all mad and try and make me pay. then i tell them the dolphins are actually an evolved cave race that feed on humans, especially Oberst... and they tend to understand.

Mark and Lono, thank you! glad you liked it. Mark, that must've been a hell of a morning's listening...

Lono, that can be easily arranged.

And as for the dolphins, i'm glad to see folks aren't taking the matter lightly...
