Barry Breaks Beak

If you have a nose for cruel humor, this is the post for you. I just can't bring myself to exploit the possibilities:

Veteran singer-songwriter Barry Manilow, recently waking up disoriented in the middle of the night, walked into a wall and broke his nose, knocking himself unconscious, the entertainer disclosed on Tuesday.

....Roused from a sound sleep thinking he was still in Malibu, Manilow got up and "veered to the left instead of the right and slammed right into the wall," he said in a statement released by his management company, Stiletto Entertainment.

He passed out for four hours, and though he was not seriously hurt, the 56-year-old performer said the mishap left his nose quiet swollen. His sense of humor remained intact, however.

"I may have to have my nose fixed, and with this nose, it's going to require major surgery," he said, referring to his famously prominent profile. [Reuters]

This sheds new light on Michael Jackson's nose destruction: he did it for his own somnambulent protection.

As sappy and crappy as most of Barry Manilow's music is, how can you dislike the guy? And there will always be the glory of "Copacabana" - trash, tragedy and intrigue under the neon glare. Fab!

When I read this, I immediately thought, "How did he *not* break it before now?" I generally steer clear of the cheap shots . . . but this week has really tempted me. Metallica . . . Manilow . . . I am slowly being broken down by irresistible forces of sarcasm.

Has to be the funniest music story since Blackie Lawless put the firework in his exploding codpiece the wrong way round.
