Barrett Martin's Zenga Delayed Until July 21

Part of: NewsFlash

Composer/multi-instrumentalist Barrett Martin's upcoming solo album Zenga has had its release date delayed for both the physical CD and the digitial downloads.  Zenga will now be released through Martin's Fast Horse Recordings on July 21.  The digital release is now slated for mid-June through iTunes and other digital outlets, including the store on Fast Horse Recordings' web site.

This isn't the first change to Zenga , either in terms of release date or the actual composition of the album.  The album was originally slated for a May release and recording and mixing are complete, but even owners of their own label can't release an album without the work and efforts of others.

As for the album itself, it was initially conceived as a double album but will instead be released as two separate albums.  Zenga is now locked in to a July 21 date.  The second album, Skyline, is still at present scheduled for release sometime in the fall.  If Skyline does indeed surface in 2009 after Zenga is released in July, it will be the third album for Martin this year.  Tuatara, the band he co-founded with R.E.M. guitarist Peter Buck, released a collaboration with poet Coleman Barks called The Here & The Gone earlier this year.

Martin's previous solo albums include The Painted Desert and Earthspeaker as well his work with Tuatara.  The albums have been featured/reviewed at Blogcritics, Jazz.com, and NPR.  Starting with the twin 2007 releases East of the Sun and West of the Moon , Tuatara started featuring vocals for the first time.

Here is the complete tracklisting for Zenga:

  1. Yemonja, Mother Of Oceans
  2. Roll The Bones

  4. Firefly
  5. Kronos
  6. Obatala, Father of Skies
  7. Che Viva
  8. Alhambra
