Kev: He quit the ASDA.

Colin: So we started jammin' in my loft, or attic as it's called and we became Attic Lights. We started off using a drum machine which was a lot less hassle, to be honest, than having a drummer.
Jamie: You're speaking very loudly and clearly there Colin. (all laugh in agreement)
Colin: I know I don't want to be misquoted. So we decided after a few gigs that we needed a drummer because it just didn't have the same effect. And we found Noel at the Celtic (Glaswegian football/soccer team) European campaign. Celtic got to European Cup final.
Noel: I was playing for Celtic. (all laugh) They came and asked me if I would play drums for Attic Lights. So I left.
Jamie: He threw the strip down. (laughter)
Noel: And now I play drums for Attic Lights and I've never looked back since.
Colin: Noel was actually a guitarist but we but we said “Do you play drums?” and he said “Yes”. Which was a lie, let's be honest. But after a few years he has gotten better.
So you're taking lessons now?
Colin: Yeah, I taught him. (laughter)
Noel: Yeah Colin has taught me everything he knew...
About Drums?
Noel: About life
And how long did that take?
Noel: About five minutes. (laughter) Then I came on board, grudgingly, because Colin was desperate.
He does have a very desperate look about him, actually.
Colin: You don't know the half of it. Wait till later on! (laughter)
Noel: I came down to jam with these guys and I actually really liked the tunes. Then about a year down the line, we saw Tim at a gig and he had just recently started playing pedal steel.
Tim: Drunk as a skunk!
Noel: And he was like 'I think pedal's the thing you need.' And then we had a wee jam and then we had the final lineup for Attic Lights.
How did you get into the pedal steel guitar in England?
Tim: I played in a band before and we had a guy who played the pedal steel in that band. He went to Nashville on holiday (vacation) as part of the South by Southwest music thingy and from there he went on to Austin, Texas. And I asked him to buy me a pedal steel in Nashville. And so he bought it and brought it over.
