I spent the past weekend in Asbury Park, NJ at the Bamboozle festival. I had our minidisc recorder with me (the original plan was to corner rock stars and force them to give me ID's about how much they love PulverRadio, but that didn't work out so well) so you can also download my thoughts about each day at the following URLs:
If I sound tired or sick, it's because I was. It poured most of Saturday, which made for a pretty miserable waiting-in-line experience.
Right. Highlights:
Further Seems Forever (feat. Chris Carrabba)
Before there ever was a Dashboard Confessional, there was Further Seems Forever, and it was good. They released only one album with Carrabba, called The Moon Is Down, but it was a totally rad album, and one that I personally consider an essential pop-punk-emo release. Somehow, the good folks at the Bamboozle managed to get the full band back together (other than Carrabba being busy w/ Dashboard, other members rarely tour anymore because of family obligations) to perform the entire record, start to finish, live. Put mildly, it was awesome.
Thrice
I didn't expect much from Thrice's headlining set because I'd seen them before at the Warped Tour and been unimpressed, but they really brought their A-game. Brand New was supposed to have the headlining spot that night, but had to cancel at the zero-hour because Jesse Lacey, the lead singer, had some surgery and wouldn't be ready to perform. As a fill-in headliner, Thrice kicked ass. They played a bunch of new stuff that all sounded tight, and they covered Brand New's "The Quiet Things That No One Ever Knows," to the delight of all those who stayed late enough to hear it.
Finch
Finch went on right before Thrice. As a whole I thought the performance was pretty lame, but my ears perked up when they covered Smashing Pumpkins - "Mayonnaise."

Thanks for mentioning Hellogoodbye, "pretty much my favorite band." They look to have a bright future to look forward to. Their sets are always great fun - nice to find a band that loves to have fun and still takes their music seriously.
