Backstreet Boys are coming back

The Backstreet Boys will be back with a new album in 2004 - or at least that's what Backstreet Boy Howie Donough has told Sharon Osbourne on her US TV show.

The Backstreet Boys have been in hiatus since 2000 because of a falling out
with label Zomba, who the band's management said were using Nick Carter's
solo project as an excuse to put the band as a whole on hold and in doing so barring them from a pre-arranged bonus for fulfilling all their album commitments to schedule.

No word yet on whether the return to the studio means all has been resolved
with Zomba or if the band are hoping to break free from their current recording contract. If Zomba are back on board it may be because of BMG's subsequent takeover of the label, or the fact that Carter's solo album kinda lost the [albeit media created] battle bigtime with fellow boyband-star-gone-solo Justin Timberlake.

Okay laugh away...but my #1 guilty pleasure is the Backstreet Boys. I LOVE them like a giddy schoolgirl...I does I tells ya..I really does.

I took my daughter (damn fine excuse to go) to see them a few years ago and I actually found myself screaming, crying and pleading for Brian to look my way with the other 13-year olds...ah to be really really really immature...;-)

Brian Littrell & AJ McLean both have amazing voices...siiiiiiigh...teeheehee...

All of them are over 18. MJ would have no interest in them. Ba-DUM-bum.

I am not a boy-band fan in general, but that single of theirs, "I Want It That Way," is such a great, catchy pop song, and Backstreet sings it so well.

    "ain't nothin' but a heartache...
    ain't nothin' but a mistake..."

It's about time. I'm tired of hearing all about those N'Syncers. It's all about the original ones who revived the boyband craze, that would BSB, not N'Sync.

Oh and "I Want It That Way" is possibly the catchiest pop song ever. I mean, what does that song have? A total of like 5 different lyrics? I should go pop it in and cruise in my convertible right now.

I am generally repugnated by pretty-boy pop groups, but I must confess I have not heard harmonies as good since Lennon and McCartney.

I forgot to mention during my stint in Malaysia, the Backstreet Boys and 98 Degrees were the only western music deemed palatable by the powers that be. I might also add the only western TV show I could get was X-Files. Mulder and the boys helped get me through that difficult time of my life so I will always have a soft spot for them.

"I have not heard harmonies as good since Lennon and McCartney."

Don't know if I would go quite that far, but yes, the boys' harmonies are simply divine and the blend is a vocal arranger's wet dream.

"and the blend is a vocal arranger's wet dream".

Now that is a little over the top for me, BUT..

Oh, honey, there is nothing like a perfect blending of voices; I get all gooey when sweet, lush harmonies fill the air. And IWITW's choruses... wow. The precision, the dynamics, the emotion... man oh man. 'Nsync wishes they could pull off what BSB did on that song. As someone who has done quite a bit of choral and theatrical singing and vocal arranging, I can tell you in all honesty that the perfect blend is *my* wet dream.

Well then, what can I say but.. ENJOY!!!

"Nsync wishes they could pull off what BSB did on that song."

I couldn't agree with you more Nat. Nstink sucks (oops, please forgive the slip Ziggy ;-)

Simon Cowell on whether he would have signed 'Nsync: "No... just the curly-haired one."

Yep me and the boys down at the plant are shittin our pants over the Backstreet Boys reunion. Gus and his ladyfriend Marge promissed us to go down and get tickets for me, Benny, Rocko, Jack, Smitty, and Vance. We jes love it when those guys all spin around at the same time. An there singin at the same time that's real talent by god. I'd put those guys up aganst the Oak Ridge Boys any day for harmunizin. An we appreciate the tough kinda lives those boys have had growing up on the backstreets an all. Jes like me and the fellers down at the plant.

Wow! I thought I got over them already but now I have to agree, even if theis new album isn't at all different than the ones before, that had been collecting dust in my cd-rack 'til yesterday, I'm still going to buy it. It could beat the rap songs anyday. What's so bad about a little bit of good old fun? Maybe I'm not over the boyband-thing after all?
