AOL Buys Out Weblogs, Inc and The Daily Music and Tech News

AOL buys out Weblogs. Confirmation of the buy out didn’t disclose the cost but its been speculated AOL was willing to spend $25 million. Weblogs, Inc has been around since 2003 and operates a network of eighty-five sites. AOL says that they’ll be able to launch sites quickly through Weblogs and offer their subscribers access to content they are interested in.

Down Under Fest Announced. The acts include Iggy and The Stooges, The White Stripes, AFI, The Magic Numbers, The Mars Volta, Kings of Leon, Cut Copy, Franz Ferdinand and Sleater-Kinney. The event begins on January 20, 2006 in Auckland before moving to Gold Coast, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth.

Stolen credit card fraud has moved to Russian language websites. Last October “Operation Firewall” led to the arrest of twenty-eight people in seven countries. The raid shut down many websites that provided opportunities to buy and sell credit-card numbers. The Russian websites, according the U.S. Secret Service are wary of outsiders. The sites also pose legal and language challenges.
