Reports circulating on the internet last weekend, and reported in the CMU
Daily yesterday, that AC/DC's Angus Young had died last week are untrue.
After we reported on the story yesterday we spoke to Stuart Galbraith, VP
Promotions at Clear Channel, who promote the band's tours in the UK. He
checked out the story with the band's agent who "laughed at the news and
confirmed Angus is alive and well and touring as we speak".
No word yet on those reports that Elvis is dead - RCA have declined to
comment.

I strongly suggest that you not delete posts in the future. If you post something that turns out to be wrong, have the courtesy to leave it there. By deleting your post, you also automatically deleted comments by several people, and that's really impolite.
If you want to avoid the embarrassment of posting incorrect information, either hold off for confirmation, or just blame the source. Please don't bury the evidence, okay?

Update: Although you deleted the post (and comments) from the database and the front page, the design of this site is such that the page itself still exists. I'm tempted to use my administrative power to recreate it as a matter of record, but since my pique at your deletion is personal, I won't do that.
Still, in my opinion, another update would have been much better than deleting the post.

Sometimes, disposing of wrong information is the easiest course of action. Perhaps editing the original post by
striking through the whole thingand putting a correction/retraction *at the top* would meet everyone's needs - killing the bad info plus leaving a virtual paper trail. Leaving the initial post alone and posting a retraction in Comments isn't really good enough considering the general public's ability to skim over petty details when there's a rumor to be spread. Good point, Dave. Editing the original post to make it clear that the information was retracted would have been better. But I still vote against disposing of information in a way that also disposes of others' contributions, i.e. comments.

Look what Philip has not admitted, I emailed him saying that he should revive the post. I made a goof and agree with all your criticisms.
It might have been best if Winn had emailed me personally, instead of slamming me publically. That was impolite imo.
Nobody is perfect, all journalists get taken sometime. This was my goof and I admit to that.

I'd say this pretty well proves the bloggy "factcheck yo ass" theory. Marty posted something that turned out to not be true, changing the original post would probably have been best, he has certainly owned up to his mistake. He wasn't trying to hide anything. Life goes on, most especially for Angus!!!! Yeay

Unfortunately, Marty, I have not received an email from you. I can guarantee you one was not sent to either of the addresses listed here on the site before last night, when I last checked them. As of tonight, the computer I use to check those addresses is in the shop.
However, that is beside the point. You deleted a post, then posted an "update" here that mentions CMU's error, but not your own. I suggested that neither you nor anyone else should ever delete posts, and I explained why. I said nothing personal, but registered my opinion publicly that deleting posts isn't a good idea. Please note again that I said nothing personal, but used words like "suggest" and "in my opinion" to let everybody know that I prefer a public record of things like this, especially when comments are involved.
I also linked directly to the deleted post so that the record would not be lost. Again, no personal indictment from me, just a statement of my views on the issue of deleting posts.
And now your first public statement on the issue tries to blame me? Nonsense. You screwed up and you admitted it, but only only in the middle of a post excusing yourself and blaming me. That's personal and uncalled for, not to mention that I believe it is completely false.
You owe me an apology for your childish behavior and personal attack. I won't even bother waiting for an unqualified apology for deleting the post. If you can only apologize by wrapping the mea culpa in between various equivocal statements in which you blame others, that's fine. I'll take what I can get.
