An Open Letter to Sir Paul McCartney

This is an open letter to Sir Paul McCartney that I have posted at my blog: The Kentucky Democrat

Dear Sir Paul McCartney,

Many of us watched in disgust as you were shut out at the Grammy Awards this past Wednesday.

As a 21-year-old Beatles fan who became a fan when the Anthology was aired due to misleading commercials, I have hope that you release another album in the next year or two. I loved Chaos and Creation in the Backyard, which I have listened to several times now, and have watched the DVD a few times, as I own the special edition.

I would like to see another critically acclaimed album released. I don't know how the Grammy voters could pass you up. I'm still confused as to how Kelly Clarkson won for Breakaway. I've listened to some of her songs and Chaos and Creation in the Backyard blows it away by a mile or two.

I guess what I am trying to say is that I hope the next album is more of a rocker with songs like "Band on the Run" and "Helter Skelter." I've always liked the rock songs that you all have written. Maybe do a concept album like Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band? I want to see you win an album of the year award sometime in our lifetimes.

Oh, and can you please release an album full of B-sides and rarities? That would please a lot of us fans. I'm anti-downloading and would like to see an authorized album.

Sincerely,
Daniel S.

Sir Paul is an elder statesman now, but Chaos and Creation in the Backyard finds him in considered and tastefully restrained form, penning songs worthy of his finest hour. McCartney crafts this collection ...

Oh, and while you're working on those requests, Sir Paul, how 'bout getting the Monkees back together again, too?

Seems as though the previous two commenters veiled their personal attacks. Such a shame that they have nothing better to do. I agree that McCartney's lp is miles ahead of anything Clarkson will ever do. Hmmm Americon Idol on CBS,and the grammys too. Seems more than just a coincidence to me.Grammys are and always have been a joke with no punchline. They are a waste of time almost always........

"Such a shame that they have nothing better to do."

Hell, I can put down Sir Yawn - and compile the entire discography of 101 Strings at the same time.

Aw, please. Breakaway didn't deserve the Grammy, but Chaos and Creation in the Backyard didn't either.

Dan, all I can say is:

"Let it be; let it be; let it be!
    Speaking words of wisdom,
    Let it be!"

Bono got it right, he said they were "all here because of this man"(McCartney).
Without The Beatles, half the music we have now would not exist. So McCartney is part of our musical evolution, but most are too ignorant to realise this!
Anyone else wanna make an anti Macca comment to demonstrate how daft they?

Paul McCartney and Bono should reform the Rutles at once.

I was in Rocky 4 and I still say that the defeat of this so called champion will finally show how weak your society has become, America. We go now!

First off, I have to say that personal attacks on here are just plain childish. Anyway, Paul is an amazing entertainer, song writer, artist...LEGEND. If musicians need the title "grammy award winner" when they're being introduced somewhere to feel special, then good for them. Paul doesn't need that to be the huge success that he is today. He's got the true talent and gift that made him a legend.

I just laugh at the people who are too ignorant to realize the great importance he is and has been in musical history and the immature way they go about bashing him and his fans. It's their loss, not his. Chaos and Creation in the Backyard is an amazing work of art. I know it, Paul knows it, and the non-ignorant know it.

"Chaos and Creation in the Backyard is an amazing work of art."

So was Wildlife, Venus and Mars, Back to the Egg, Pipes of Peace and Thrillington. I say nominate the man for knighthood. We'll all be listening to Chaos and Creation in the Backyard 3 times a week 10 years from now.

Paul is definitely a legend and deserves respect (R-E-S-P-E-C-T) that is being shown here. Bono is definitely right about the Beatles starting it all. Everyone from Mick and the Stones, Zeppelin, the Who, Clapton, Aerosmith, to Eminem and Prince owe something to the man. This is not to say that they aren't great talents and would have had some success, but the Beatles opened up possibilities for musical stars that never existed before, not even for Elvis. Even their first two movies set the tone for music videos. Ahead of their time and for all time!

Still, I wonder what good it is to expect more from Paul. That's like asking Hemingway to write one more The Sun Also Rises when he only had The Green Hills of Africa left to give.

That is why I said maybe we should just "Let it Be!"

Idol vs. icon. It's like comparing apples to oranges. As Ellen said, the man needs no introduction. He has been acknowledged countless times for his lifetime of achievements. He remains legendary with or without a grammy award.

McCartney is responsible for 'classic' corporate rock? I thought he was responsible for Vh1 dreck. Whatever, down the potty with it.

If you're talking about rock, immortal down-to-earth liberation rock, Chuck Berry started it all.
