Amy LaVere "That Beat"

Part of: Sun Studio Sessions

If Amy LaVere is new to you, you're in for a real treat. This lady of the south is a captivating singer songwriter who will quickly catch your eye for rocking out on a stand up bass guitar that looks about twice her size. Beyond a unique style and sound, Amy has a side acting career with appearances in Walk the Line and Black Snake Moan

But, Amy will quickly tell you that music is her first love. Her passion for it is evident on both her debut This World Is Not My Home and her most recent release Anchors & Anvils. With a great touring band with drummer Paul Taylor and guitarist Steve Selvidge, Amy is winning fans over from coast to coast and across the ocean. After several big summer dates, including a stop at Bonnaroo, Amy and crew will head to the UK where she's also been building a buzz.

So how to describe Amy's sound?  Harp Magazine nailed it when they wrote: "Amy Lavere's voice is a sweet rasp that contradicts the heaviness implied by the title of her Jim Dickinson-produced Anchors & Anvils (Archer) and that big-ass bass she slaps around onstage. The sweetness pervades the Memphis musician's dreamy pop songs, channeling 1950s proms, Twin Peaks/Badalamenti surreality and just a bit of roadhouse tonk..."  Yes, "Twin Peaks/Badalamenti - you don't hear that everyday!

Amy is quite at home at Sun, as she still works here as a part time tour guide. But, even though we'd love to keep her around her real day job is keeping her quite busy, so if you want to have Amy show you around this grand old place personally you better get here soon. If you can't make it here, do look for Amy on the road. Meanwhile, please enjoy "That Beat."
