I am still not entirely sure what I think about Courtney Love- besides the fact that she does write some very raw material and that I love her voice. If I have to put her in the class of a Rock and Roll Woman, then I love her because she seems to epitomize that reckless, raw, "just go for it" abandon that I think real rock and roll has lost. Sure, as she has become more popular, her production values on her records have climbed and she is a lot different than that rock floozy that we saw back in Seattle Grunge days but her voice hasn't changed and she knows how to give a good show.
The number one thing that I look for in a good rock band: Do they give good show? Do they make me want to get up, throw things, kiss a random stranger, whip my top off, and chug a beer? This is why I am looking forward to hearing the new album by Courtney. I have heard "Mono", which is okay, hell... in comparison to all the pop crap that come out from the likes of Britney, Christina, Beyonce, etc, it's actually quite refreshing to hear a woman's roar like that. I wanted to get on my motorcycle in my high heeled boots, go down to the local bar, get on top of the bar and kick a few blokes in the face and drink their beers (and damn it, isn't that what a "rock chick" does?)
Madonna has become such a wuss and such a disappointment. For all of Courtney’s issues with anger, and drugs, for all her issue with the former members of Nirvana, Courtney is Courtney- an attention grabbing rock diva. She is Rock and Roll. She's trouble. And I gotta say, I do like a bit of trouble.
