Wow, that was fast. Release dates and track lists for the singles from the winner and runner-up of American Idol were posted to Amazon.com today. Fantasia's single comes out in just two weeks, with Diana's following a week later.
1. I Believe
2. Dreams
3. Summertime
Release date: June 15, 2004
1. I Believe
2. Dreams
3. Don't Cry Out Loud
Release date: June 22, 2004
One has to wonder what it means that Diana's currently is ranked #158 for sales and Fantasia's is only ranked #349.

I can't wait not to care.

I guess Diana did get a deal. I heard Randawg say he'd sign her; is he with RCA? I forget.
The Amazon pre-sales don't mean anything because no one even knows that the singles are available or when yet. The bulk of those sales will be in mall record stores and Best Buys when the kids spend their allowance money. I'm pretty sure Fantasia will come out pretty far ahead then and, especially when the albums come out. Ruben and Clay sold about the same amount of their first singles when their fans were fresh off the finale, but Clay has sold a good deal more of his album since then.
The only way I would have bought Clay's horrible album is if he was holding a ruler next to the "Measure of a Man" title. Cuz I mean, that's just funny for so many reasons.
Booey Out! For real, I'm going to pick up Theo and/or Vanessa tonight.
That is all.

Oh, and it's a bad move for Diana to have 2 of the same songs as Fantasia's single, especially since Diana never sang "Dreams" on the show. Maybe it cost too much to license "Turn the Beat Around," but she should have picked some other song that her boring fans would want to hear so it doesn't force as much of a choice between the two singles in sales.
That is all.

I think it exceedingly odd that they would release singles with the same lead songs a week apart - what good can come of that? Whoever "loses" looks bad in an unnecessary competition. Why force that issue?

I think that it is unfair that Diana is releasing "I Believe" and "Dreams" since they were only supposed to be released by the winner. It just goes to show that the world is still unfair and biased. I seriously doubt that if Diana won Fantasia would be recording those songs.

Oddly, Amazon has now added a track listing for Fantasia's CD that includes "Chain of Fools" instead of "Dreams." I expect we'll see additional changes before the singles are released.
