Alice In Chains with Maynard James Keenan

At a recent benefit show to raise money for the Tsunami in Seattle, the three surviving members of Alice In Chains got together with guest vocalists to perform some classic AIC songs. One of my favorite singers, Maynard James Keenan from Tool and A Perfect Circle was on-hand to do "Them Bones," "Man in the Box," and "Rooster" with the help of Wes Scantlin (Puddle of Mudd) and Nancy Wilson (Heart.)

I don't know where you can get the bootlegs of the performance, but if you feel motivated, I am sure you can find them.

The point of the story is that Maynard James Keenan can sing just about anything. Tool, A Perfect Circle, a version of Paul McCartney's Silly Little Love Songs, Deftones songs, duets with Tori Amos, and the loud guttural voice on "Three Little Pigs" by Green Jello (Jelly) if you can remember that song.

Now, if we could just get Tool to record albums more frequently...

I actually found them on the Newsgroups if you have access to those.

There were 13 Alice in Chains tracks and Maynard did the three that I mentioned in the article.

I have to confess to being technologically ignorant of newsgroups.

as a Poet, Maynard picks up where Neal Peart left off...

thoughtful, incisive...unafraid to deal with off the wall subject matter

as a Vocalist..his like has not been seen since David Bowie

that's just my sith billionths of the worlds opinion

    your mileage may vary

    Excelsior!

I would challenge anyone to come up with a better contemporary male vocalist who uses range to the extent that Maynard does without coming off sounding cheesy and 80's.

Um, Mike Patton, Craig? Patton blows Maynard away, easily.

I am still trying to figure out of this is an April Fools Joke. Being a fan of both bands, I would kill or die for links to these MP3s. however, I am reading everything today with great suspicion.

I mean, you should see how far the pranksters at CNN are going with this whole 'Pope is dying' thing. I think people know by now there is no such thing as a 'pope'. People are so gullible.

scratch that first part. The music story is real, I just got MP3s from Kabir's Tool site (toolshed.down.net)

Sorry, I know I should have HTML'd that into the comments, but after the HRef part I forget how to do it (I admit it, blogger handles most of my HTML work for me).

Patton is great, to be sure, but I like Maynard Better. Still, a solid nominee and definitely way up there on the list.
