AC/DC will return with their first album in eight years when Columbia Records releases Black Ice on October 20, exclusively through Wal-Mart and Sam's Club.
The rumors of the album title and exclusive partnership with Wal-Mart have been in the news for awhile now, but have only been confirmed by the band's label today.
The 15-track album was recorded in Vancouver, produced by Brendan O'Brien (Bruce Springsteen, Pearl Jam, King's X), and features one of the band's classic lineups: Brian Johnson (vocals), Angus and Malcolm Young (guitars), Cliff Williams (bass), Phil Rudd (Drums).
The album is going to sell for $11.88 exclusively through Wal-Mart and Sam's Club. It will also be sold on the band's web site. Both the band's web site and Wal-Mart's are taking pre-orders for the record.
The track listing for the album has also been announced. "Rock 'N' Roll Train" is the first song on the album and will also serve as the album's first single, debuting on August 28. A world tour to promote Black Ice will begin in late October.
I don't think we'll have to worry about whether or not the band has spent the last eight years getting any new or big ideas. Just perusing the track list should comfort fans (and detractors). There are three songs that include phrase "Rock 'n' Roll" and one that includes the word "rocking." There's a song called "Decibel" and one called "Big Jack." This is an AC/DC record and I haven't heard note one from it.
- Rock 'N' Roll Train
- Skies on Fire
- Big Jack
- Anything Goes
- War Machine
- Slash 'n' Grab
- Spoilin' For A Fight

They seem a little less rock 'n' roll now that they have signed an exclusivity deal with Wal-Mart.
Call me old fashioned but there is something patently uncool about being able to go into a shop to get the new ACDC album and also pick-up a gallon of milk and a big old box of tampons while you're there!

You're not wrong. My contempt for exclusivity deals is well known throughout the internets.

Have you been to Wal-Mart lately. The kind of boring, loud, obnoxious music AC/DC makes is perfect for the redneck crowd that frequents Wally-world.

A.L., you are old fashioned.

The guy who just spent a year in China is asking the guy who lives in Ala-fucking-bama about Wal-Mart? The fuck? I didn't say I like Wal-Mart, just that I dislike Satan fucking Best Buy more.

Yeah, screw convenience! I want to go to three different stores to purchase my necessities. Y'know, the way our forefathers intended.

Suss' secret is out. He actually considers AC/DC a "necessity." I knew there was a bottle of moonshine under that sports desk...

I tell ya spend a year in China then come back to the USA and go directly to Wal-Mart. Talk about culture shock!
