A Video Message From John Waters

On Tuesday, February 6, just in time for Valentine's Day, New Line Records is releasing A Date With John Waters, a collection of some of the film director's favorite songs about love and/or sex. To promote the CD, Waters has recorded a video message in which he invites us in and goes through each track in his own wonderfully lascivious style.

I've always preferred John Waters the Personality to John Waters the Director (although I liked Hairspray both as a movie and as a musical). For some reason his crassness sounds better coming out of his mouth than someone else's, so I'm really looking forward to this CD.

Doesn't that make you want to put on a fake fur coat and grow a pencil-thin mustache? I love how he easily he slips into the role of someone aiding, abetting, and then seducing a criminal. Few people would think of it, and fewer could pull it off with such panache.

As with his A John Waters Christmas CD, A Date With John Waters melds his love of music with his trademark bad taste. The songs range from classics like Clarence "Frogman" Henry's "Ain't Got No Home" and Ray Charles' "Night Time Is The Right Time" to more obscure cuts like "All I Can Do Is Cry" by Ike and Tina Turner.
