The Trews: Den of Thieves
Never heard of this lot of Canadians and for once I feel a bit left out. When I learned this is their second album I was even more bummed. Yes, they are that bloody good. They pull off 15 cracking tracks with aplomb. So good are this lot that I deliberately left em' out of last week's review collection so I could listen to them for one more week. There is oddles and oodles of class on this album.
Don't expect another dreary bit of sub-Nickleback fare either ... this is more a Canuck variation on a combination of Tesla and Black Crowes with a twist of Brother Cane. This is hard rock containing a healthy country-ting with a singer who can actually sing. "Poor Ol' Broken Hearted Me" with its acapella sing-along and tongue-in-cheek lyrics could be a huge hit if it were directed the right way. It puts a smile on your face and sticks in your head from the first listen. I was singing it for hours afterwards. "So She's Leaving" is classy rocker that oozes class and a live appeal. Even the tail-end track, rarely a quality one on most albums, is a wonderful ditty called "Ishmael & Maggie." Crap name, enough with the the names already, but a great album. I do hope they tour the UK soon.

You produce Coldplay-esque dull rock, something there is quite enough around of thank you very much, and your cover is a childish picture of a cat. Not the best of starts ... oh and there are 4 songs on the CD while only 3 are named on the liner notes. If you want people to sign/praise you it would help to put contact details/website on the bleeding thing (OK there is a phone number big whoop). If I were this lot I would start over and try to get it right. As of yet it's dull whingeing all around.
