On Manowar’s Hail to England album, their bass player Joey DeMaio claimed that he would be shooting black arrows of death into the hearts of all those who would play false metal. Apparently Joey’s aim is off, because 40 Grit is still alive.
Nu-metal has been circling the drain for a while now, and with most of the top artists of the genre facing declining sale, this is exactly the wrong time to jump on the bandwagon. Apparently 40 Grit did not get the memo. Nothing to Remember is 49 minutes of the same old nu-metal that’s being played by countless numbers of bands on countless Clear Channel station across the country. It’s bland, it’s boring, and for an alleged heavy metal band, it’s about as threatening as a six-year old girl with no arms. I’d love to pick out something specific to complain about, but it’s all just so generic, there’s no point. Never has an album been so aptly named. If your music collection consists of Linkin Park and Coal Chamber albums, you may very well like this. But those who want their heavy metal to actually be heavy will be sorely disappointed.
It’s albums like this that make people turn to file sharing services to find music. This is the single most boring album I’ve heard in months, and considerable nu-metal is a genre unique in its ability to deliver boring albums again and again, that’s saying something. I can’t think of a single compelling reason to buy this album unless you have a burning desire to hear just how bad modern heavy metal can be.
