Here is some glorious pompy hard rock for your pleasure.
House of Lords are back on February 25 with a new album called Precious Metal. And, well, this is James Christian and company doing what they do best. There are few bands who do this sort of pomp rock so well, but never over the top. Just when you think it will tip into the land of tweeness, they pull back. House of Lords always put a smile on your face and this is an enjoyable listen for me. While this album might not win any new fans it certainly will please those who love this lot.
Iron Mask have released Fifth Song of Winterdoom. Some good stuff on here, with loads of Rising Force-esque pomp and circumstance. While lyrically there are a few cringe-worthy moments, the sheer force of the clever musicality washes over it all. This is enjoyable romp through tunes ranging from the fantastical, grandiose title track to a crack at the tale of Dorian Gray.
Vanden Plas are about to release Chronicles of the Immortals – Netherworld on their fanbase on February 25. I have to say I was quite impressed with this release and it reminded me why people just love this band. How can you not like tracks like “The Black Night” and the other tales of derring-do and adventure? Vanden Plas are yet another band that know how to keep things on the correct side of “over the top.” The quality always shows through and this release is a good example of that.
Vanishing Point are to release Distant is the Sun on March 4. To me, one song sums up how good this lot are. It is called “Let the River Run” and it had me on first listen. I have yet to be able to get through it without singing along. It is a lyrical and musical triumph of a track. It is a song that deserves to be a huge anthemic stadium hit. Not that the rest of the tracks on here are slackers either, but this track just nails it hard. The band can be damn proud of this release.
Have a safe and rocking week out there.Powered by Sidelines
