While I am not well versed in soca muisc, I do have tons of respect for it and try to check for the latest songs from time to time. All Caribbean music has always felt like the perfect music to enjoy your summer. With the season in full swing, I am digging in my online crates and turning up the heat with tons of new goodies from VP Records.

One of their latest offerings is the annual compilation Soca Gold 2009 It's filled with high energy riddims, and more than enough hits to keep your summer vacation sizzling. If you can't make it out to the West Indian Day Parade in Brooklyn this year, just pop in this CD and get something to wave! This CD serves as a great introduction to some of the movers and shakers in the genre, and has earned its place in my favorites play list.

Soca Gold 2009 is just so energetic and electric that it is damn near impossible to resist. VP has put together a great collection of parade worthy songs with this one. It's filled with impressive singles from Edwin Yearwood, Blaxx, Peter Ram, Destra and more! This is a great way to introduce yourself to soca and give your summer a great soundtrack.

Standout songs on the compilation album include the radio ready "Plenty Gal" by Bunji Garlin featuring Beenie Man, Destra Garcia's blistering "Bacchanal" and the irresistible "Tusty" by Roy Cape featuring Blaxx. The video hass one of the funniest shots ever, with Blaxx half submerged in a jacuzzi, but somehow he pulls it off and keeps the groove catchy!

Other great cuts are Peter Ram's club smash "Tight", Patrice Roberts "Looking Hott", and Edwin Yearwood's "Handle Ya Bizniz".

Soca Gold 2009 also features a DVD complete with footage from J'ouvert Morning and music videos from many of the main acts. All in all, it's a great addition to any collection, sure to make your morning commutes a bit jumpier. The CD is in stores now, go cop this one and turn up the heat this summer!
