S&S Records has released the ambitious CD/DVD compilation entitled “The Chicago” LP, as a celebration of Chicago house music. Executive producers Steve “Silk” Hurley & “DJ Skip” have compiled a 2 CD/DVD pack, filled with new and previously unreleased music from legendary dance music artists as well as interviews of some seldom seen, legendary house producers and DJs.

The CD is a true journey into the genre of dance music in general, and Chi-Towns contribution to the music scene as a whole. The DVD documentary that accompanies the CD takes it up a notch with interviews of all the artist involved in the project, making it a musical first in the process. Believe me, this one is packed with special guest. Roy Davis Jr., Marshall Jefferson, Bad Boy Bill, Maurice Joshua, CZR, Syleena Johnson, DJ Slugo, Paul Johnson, Ron Carrol, and DJ Pierre are just a handful of artists that appear.

It really is a heavyweight release, monumental in its scope and amount of club classics and talent. DJs will not have trouble finding a few cuts to rock during their next house set. "Baby Wants To Ride" by Jaime Principal, "Please Believe" by DJ Skip, "Just A Feeling" by Hurley & Marshall Jefferson feat B. Lauren, “Juke It” by DJ Slugo featuring Fast Eddie, “Magic” by Roy Davis Jr. feat. Terry Dexter, and “Siren Trax” by DJ Pierre are just a few of the many cuts, sure to raise the temperature on the floor.

This compilation is a major accomplishment in dance music, as decades worth of house music is represented here. It’s hard to believe that there hasn’t been a release of this nature before, with the tons of personalities and artist behind dance music. With Chicago being a milestone city in house music, this CD/DVD compilation serves as a beginner’s guide to the sound.

The DVD documentary was filmed by and edited by Helton “Brazil” Siqueira. The young director was nominated in several categories, at the Future Filmmakers Festival in Chicago! The 18 year old wonder has several videos to his credit, working for clients as diverse as UPN and The Wu Tang Clan. The visuals and interviews that are featured here are amazing, as we get to hear several of dance music’s icon speak freely in the culture, past and future of house music.

Malik Yusef drops some serious knowledge on the separation of Hip-Hop and dance music and how that separation is hurting both music forms. We are given a tour of the Joshua house, with his wife Kai showing us the digs and giving us a nice touch to the house music tour. Grammy winner Maurice Joshua shows us the personal side of his life and makes us feel right at home. Paul Johnson speaks to us from a hospital bed, detailing his life before music and the event that left him paralyzed. He goes on to talk about some of the hardships he has faced just to play house music and inspires us with his strength and musical brilliance.

The DVD is filled with hours worth of interviews and the CD is packed with solid dance floor grooves, fresh from Chicago’s finest! Congratulations to Hurley and DJ Skip for putting this compilation together and finally documenting the Chicago House music scene! The album is in stores now. A tour is in the works with Chicago’s Congress Theater being the first venue, with more cities and dates to be announced soon.  Look for this new compilation and add it to your collection now!
