OutloudzOutloudz is a new pop group from a little Northern European country, Estonia. The band reached stardom when they participated in an Estonian televised song contest earlier this year, called Eesti Laul 2011 (“Estonian Song 2011” in English), a national pre-selection competition for the world’s largest music TV show, the Eurovision Song Contest. Outloudz participated with their second single, called “I Wanna Meet Bob Dylan” and finished in second place. The single got third place in the International Songwriting Competition in the Pop/Top 40 category.

Now they have released their debut album called Wide Awake. The album consists of 12 songs, all in English. The group has said that there are no songs in Estonian language, as they believe that it’s possible to get some international success with their music.

Outloudz’ music is not full of beats so strong that you could feel your subwoofer exploding, nor are they playing ballads. Outloudz’s mid-tempo music is rather playing on your feelings with hypnotizing melodies and vibes.

The most successful single, “I Wanna Meet Bob Dylan,” starts pretty quietly without even having a full chorus. It gets stronger step by step by adding drums, and later a full chorus with backing vocals. The song is not talking only about Bob Dylan as you might think. He talks about getting “old and grey” soon because the time goes by so fast and he hasn’t really done much with that time so far. So he wants to meet Bob Dylan before he’ll get old and grey.

Wide Awake has many other great songs. “All For You”, their first single “It Was You” or “Monkey Business” could be called up-tempo if compared to their other songs. But you can’t find dance tracks here. They also have amazing low-tempo songs (which are not ballads), such as “The Only Sound” or “Our Little World”.

Here’s a sample of the whole album, which was released in late May:

That’s quality pop!
