Twenty-five years ago, an album was released that soon became the world’s best selling album of all time. It made the artist a legend if he wasn’t already, but in any case it made him noticed. It brought him out from the crowd of his family. Thriller made Michael Jackson the superstar he is today.
Even with him no longer truly doing much, no matter what happens, he is still a star. It doesn’t really matter if it was the single gloved hand, the dance moves, the music, or the videos; there was something about this one album that captured an entire generation. Twenty-five years later, the songs are still listened to. They are heard in movies and television shows. They are still played at parties, and there aren’t many that don’t know the lyrics to at least one of the songs on this album.
Now you can revisit the album you might have bought as a child or a teenager with a new release celebrating its anniversary. This CD and DVD set takes you back in time with all the original tracks from the original CD. All nine tracks are included, with an additional track containing the voiceover for “Thriller” as done by Vincent Price. Who doesn’t remember that voice over? Parts of the song have become a part of Halloween ever since. It’s instantly recognizable.
Also contained on the CD are new tracks, and remixes with some of today’s biggest names including Fergie, Akon and Kanye West. I wasn’t too sure about remixing some of the best songs ever recorded, but these tracks actually surprised me. The new “Beat It,” which features Fergie, had me dancing in my seat. Her voice is perfect for the track. A never before released track from the original “Thriller” is also included.
On the DVD, you will find three music videos of songs from the CD, which we all know were short films more than music videos, “Thriller” especially. Michael Jackson is one of the early pioneers of the music video, and he tried to do his best to make it an art form. Many artists of today are influenced by his work in music and music video. His performance at Motown’s Twenty-fifth Anniversary, where he moonwalked across the stage, is also included. Fans of Michael Jackson will love having all four of these videos in one easy collection.
I was only seven-years-old when this album was released, but I remember playing it for hours. Michael Jackson was one of my favorite artists growing up. I remembered trying to imitate his dance moves and singing along to the songs on this album and the ones that followed. It is hard to believe it has been twenty-five years since its release. That is a long time, but this album has certainly stood the test of time, and any fan would want to have this special new release of the album along with its new remixes that give a new look to these classic songs.Powered by Sidelines
