Music Review: Glee Cast, Glee: The Music, Journey To Regionals

On June 8, the first season of FOX's hit show Glee comes to a close and coincides with the release of the show's latest album, Glee: The Music, Journey To Regionals. The EP contains all of the songs performed in the season finale by the show's cast.

The EP kicks off with Journey's "Faithfully" as sung by characters Finn Hudson (Cory Monteith) and Rachel Berry (Lea Michele). The song is the perfect pick, along with kicking off New Directions' Journey-centric Regionals performance, it also somewhat sums up Finn and Rachel's relationship throughout this season.

Singing-wise, both Monteith and Michele sound fantastic on "Faithfully." This song fit Monteith's vocal range pretty well. I enjoy duets by these two, because their voices compliment each other's well.

The second track is a mash-up of Journey's "Any Way You Want It" and "Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin'." I really love how well these songs mashed together, and the Glee cast's vocals sound fantastic.

Although I am quite partial to the episode one version of "Don't Stop Believing," I have to say I love how amped up the Regionals version is. This new version features vocals from multiple Glee cast members, however I love that it stays true to the original with Finn (Monteith) and Rachel (Michele) opening the song.

New Direction's glee club rivals, Vocal Adrenaline perform Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody," with Jesse St. James (Jonathan Groff) on lead vocals.

In my opinion, this is the best Groff has sounded during his time on Glee. It is such a stellar vocal. The background chorus singers also sound fantastic. I am very much looking forward to seeing this performance during Glee's finale.

Another track on the album is "To Sir, With Love." It is another fantastic group number from the Glee cast. What I liked is that the female vocalists that are usually known for their huge belting notes (Michele and Amber Riley) showed the softer side of their voices.

Closing out the album is Mr. Schuester (Matthew Morrison) singing, "Somewhere Over The Rainbow." Morrison's vocal is spot on. I appreciate that Morrison has a song on this latest EP. In a way the song rounds out his character's season on Glee.
